Hi all.
What should we look for in a sleeping bag.
The most important thing is that it keeps you warm and dry.
There for it must be well insulated and breathable.
For use in a small nylon tent it really needs to be waterproof, to stop condensation getting it wet, and it does.
Those of us who use breathable sleeping bags and inflatable beds will have seen the result of the moisture released from our bodies and condensed on the cold bed. if you do not remove the bed coverings and sleeping bag every day the moisture will be reabsorbed back into the coverings and bag, unless the bag is waterproof.
The trouble is to buy a sleeping bag that is a standard type and not a adventurers mummy type can be expensive.
and I have never seen them for sale on camping gear suppliers. The only shops that seem to sell these top quality sleeping bags are fishing shops.
So if you really want to stay warm and dry, Type (sleeping bags for anglers) and go through a few of the pages.

They camp all year round in small nylon bivvies so they need them. But it is true they have the best beds, Chairs, the best sleeping Bags, and for a two man weekend tent, the best small dome tents made.
It is just that campers don't look for them, ask any specimen hunter and he will tell you the same. just take a look at the fox continental easy dome on the (fishingwarehouseshop) under bivvies page two. just piture that with a 4x3meter tatonka tarp on the front.

last year we bought a couple of the Astral 350 XL sleeping bags, i cant remember how much they were but i remember them being a bargain. its the best sleeping bag ever, no clothes on a cold night and still lovely and warm in it. but the best thing is that it has the same effect on me as rocking a pram has on a baby, as soon as i am zipped in i am sound asleep, i even sometimes sleep in it at home if i am having trouble sleeping. we also made sure we bought a right hand zip and a left hand zip so that we can zip them together and have loads of room - BRILLIANT!!
I have a 5 season Wychwood one and my other half has a HiGear Slumber 4 season sleeping bag. I have also purchased a Vango Nitestar XL for summer camping because they are 110cm wide and therefore give you room to turn around unrestrictedly. Its the draughts when you move and turn that turn me off from a duvet and space is premium in our car, we even have to shrink our clothes down in vacuum bags to go otherwise we would have no room for other essentials. I thought they looked perfect for us (we need a big bag so that when the little dog lies in the middle there's still plenty of bag left!), but on a the sites I looked at they didn't say you had a choice of L/H or R/H zips, so I thought they wouldn't zip together.
We have same ones as lisyp- got them a couple of years ago we bought R and LH ones too so they could zip together if we wanted them to - they are lovely and warm and the extra space really makes a difference. I used to have a 'mummy' type one and didn't like having my feet so restricted.
We have the Slumba 400 from camping International sale at £24.99 they are really warm and about the thickness of a duvet.We also got one left and one right if we want to zip them together.
We bought a double sized sleeping bag, the funny bit is both of us trying to get in it ! after two weeks of camping, I do look forward to my side of the bed and duvet.
Great advice because I havn't been able to get a decent sleeping bag that works all year without costing an absolute fortune.
The 5 season Wychwood mentioned seems a good choice for me but I can't find it's weight.
Anyone know?
having gone through loads of bags our kids have these, not to expensive and nice and warm, as they are large they have plenty of room to move about, we picked some up in a sale a year or so ago for £15 each. If its to warm they open them out and use them like a duvet and sleep in a cotton hostel liner.
Me and Oh use a duvet with an old sleeping bag unfolded under a fitted sheet on the airbed or if really cold add double sleeping bag as well, not that keen on sleeping bags as i like to sleep with my foot stuck out. Our 13 tog duvet fits into an old stuff sack and is actually a smaller pack size than the double sleeping bag.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
