Our Gelert Satelite 6 has suffered over the years (never beaten thou') and the small ridge pole has worn out its retaining web pouch. Whats the best repair...we've been recommended duc/gaffer tape ( nobody will see it) as a proper repair would cost over 50 quid...ps its a vital repair
A couple of years back trying to erect the tent in extremely windy conditions ( I knew I shouldn't have him the curry the night before) we put a large tear (3ft long) in our tent. It was either pack up and come home or fix it one way or another. Duc tape did the trick and the tent stayed together for the whole of the holiday. As other pieces had fallen off and sagged over the years we decided on a new tent the following year, but we are both sure if we were still using that tent now, the repaired area would probably be the strongest piece.
Have you thought about taking it to a cobbler? I had an awning stitched for a few quid, and they did it while I went shopping and called back for it an hour later. If you can get a suitable piece of material to patch it , it would be better than tape, although ductape is good, and theres a stronger one again called gorilla tape.. Is it a piece of webbing like the straps are made of? Like handles on holdalls? luggage straps? But maybe you'd need a bit wider than the width of a strap. If so, Im thinking of the tie down straps you can get for securing stuff to lorries, they sell them in the poundshop. they are about 2-3 inches wide.
