Hi, my name is Michelle and I have terrible memories of camping with school, about,,...........28years ago!!! Dragonflies, cold, eating spam,no showers,,,urgh!!
Anyway, my 4year old son has been nagging me to go camping so I have given in and his dad has bought a tent, cooker, sleeping bags, no idea what make/model.
We've decided to go to kingsbury this saturday morning and try it for one night (the reviews look good on this site)
My son has nagged me for the whole week and has been sleeping in his sleeping bag the whole time, i'm getting slowly excited, looking forward to him having space and freedom.
Just make sure you have plenty of warm bedding. Fleecy blankets on top of airbeds, cold comes p from the ground through the airbeds, make sure your insulated against this.
We had our first camp of the season this weekend, It was hot in the day, but cold at night, but we had thick sleeping bags and extra blankets and a good nights sleep makes all the difference.
A friend and I have just bought our kit. I like your self have bad memories of my first and only biking/camping trip to the lake district when I was 15. Upon returing from the local pub at around 11.30, after riding through a torrential downpour, we found the campsite under two inches of water. Wether it was the whole site or where just where we had pitched I'm not sure. It was too dark to see and I was too wet to care. We dismantled and set off for home, by the time we were on our way. I was soaked to the skin through 2 layers underneath "waterproofs". Never to do it again.
Until now.
Whilst my friend has gone the budget route of a starter kit from argos I've decided to spend a bit more to, hopefully, ensure a more comfortable time. Whilst a string of unrelated problems have meant we couldn't go away as planned my friend has gone to Kiln Park. He arrived to sunshine on the first day and happily sent me a photo of them lazing outside. Today though has seen a good amount of rain from morning till night. The pitch is soaked, the tent has leaked a little. His back is hurting from the lack of space and height but he is still enjoying himself. He'll buy a new tent when he gets back and get ready for the next trip.
------------- Think this year is to follow old meet friends for 2014.
If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.
Pete.
Welcome to this site and good luck with your camping. We were at Kingsbury Water Park at the beginning of April, it is a lovely site, the toilet/shower facilities are supurb so you have chosen well. As someone else has said, take the layers as it can still get cold at night at this time of the year, even if the days are warm and sunny.
We started camping last year and we love it. I have a 4 and a 6 year old, they get so excited when they know we are going.
We are off to Leek in Staffordshire next week. That's not too far from you so one to consider if you get bitten by the camping bug
Happy camping
Pauline

Hi Welcome to the site hope that you have a fun adventure time the kids will love it, do make sure you keep warm at night as it can put many folk off. When I introduced camping to our family 7 years ago we have not looked back, and got better and better. We even make the most of it when it is cold and wet for days on end and keep on going camping. so good luck have fun
im getting ready for my third camping trip, with my new tent, we brought the 100 pound set from halfords the year before last and the second time we used it a zip broke
at least we still have the mattresses and sleeping bags for the new tent so not a complete loss
EHU and a fan heater is a good investment. You wouldn't believe the difference it makes, even on a low setting the tent becomes very comfortably warm. I used one last week and am now sorry I didn't do it years ago. I've got a cotton frame tent so don't know if they are as good in one of the sticks and nylon balloon tents.
remeber camping in a cotton fame tent with my parents when I was young, and absolutly loving it hope my three kids (7, 3 and 8 months) have similar memories oldest two kids loved the year before last (couldn't go last year because the mrs was heavily pregnant)
we booked next weekend at haven burnham on see (40 quid on website) gotta pack up sunday night (got work monday) so cant stay the full 3 nights but of 40 quid and all the facilities who can moan
Go have fun, enjoy the sociability of the campsite (I love the gossiping with other ladies bit), grit your teeth through the tough bits (weather probably) and sure yourself up against the cold as Beefysmum says. If you're an up-in the-middle-of-the-night-for-a-wee type of person (as I am) then consider a portable loo of some description, even if its just a bucket with a lid - not having that on my first trip nearly put me off going again. Take it as it comes, I've had much worse holidays in hotels in the sunshine.
Hi Shelly, my wife and I returned to camping after 35 years....we are both knocking on shall we say and our only consession these days is an electric hook up so we can put a fan heater on in the tent for an hour in the evening.....plenty of bedding..and enjoy to the limit..its brilllllllllllllllllllllllll
Have a great time, as long as you are warm enough you'll be fine....also a bottle (or box as I prefer) of red wine (no need to chill) helps...well it does for me anyways!!! Let us know how you get on.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
