We have just purchased the new Outwell Idaho XL tent plus porch, we have spent quite some time before purchasing a new tent looking at details (porch) due to the bad weather last year to stop the run off into main living area. We thought that we had found the ideal tent for long weekends to full week holidays (two young children - need the space), but now we have come to a huge bump in the road of happy camping, on trying to book the tent (through caravan and camping club - just joined)in we are told that the tent is too big for their sites with electrical hookup. Has anyone encounted this type of problem? If so please let me know.
I know quite a few sites restrict the size of tents which I think is wrong!!!! I had the same problem, not through C&CC though.
We are going to Widemouth Bay in Cornwall which is a John Fowler site. It looks great, swimming pool and lots for the kids to do. When I rang them I told them I had a large tent and their customer service was brilliant, they said it was not a problem and would specify a certain section for me and my friend.
Keep trawling that's all I can say. Personally the areas I looked at the C&CC didn't seem much of a saving. Perhaps I was looking in the wrong place
This is a common problem that people have with modern large tents. C&CC and numerous other sites have a standard pitch width of 11 metres, therefore allowing for the statutory 6 metres spacing between units the maximum that can be accommodated is 5 metres. Pitches with EHU cannot be moved due to the fixed positon of the electric point but the tents can often be accommodated on non-electric pitches.
This is one reason why many people find tunnel tents to be more practicable, they take up a relatively small footprint area but have a large usable area.
That's why we went for the Montanna12, but we saw the IdahoXL and love it, it looks great. I think it really depends on the site, lots of them seem to take big tents no problem. Maybe you need 2 tents depending on where you are going
Well, it's 4.25 m deep by 7.5 m wide, according to the blurb. It's an odd tent in that the width is the bigger dimension. But I don't see why it can't be pitched on a C&CC site pitch, if it went on sideways? Just give the dimensions when booking without saying which is which. A rectangle is a rectangle after all. Just be sure to pitch it up and down.
Of course if the porch adds on more to the 4.25m you're in trouble, but presumably this is optional. Or you can go non-electric on sites with restricted pitches.
we have one and the measurements are 7.5 by 6.25 m that is without the extension porch and you can't pitch it without the one which is already attached. That adds 2 metres to the width. When you add the extension it adds another 2 m onto it so it is infact massive!
We pitch ours at Hertford and they are fine with it but other sites have said no, good luck x

Is that the Outwell Hartford and if so which is it?? We have the Outwell Hartford XL 08 and we have been worried about the size as it's 7.7m x 7.m, however we have told 3 advance booked campsites we have a large tent and none of them turned us down.
After reading numerous threads on here I thought we would end up selling it to buy a tunnel tent but so far so good and I think it's a lovely tent.
Hi
The C&C Club will accept tents at no extra charge if they are below 9 meters long and 5 meters wide this is clearly in their rules Tents that are wider than this must ring the site to see if they have a pitch big enough to accept your tent if no but they have two adjoining pitches vacant they will or should offer you these pitches at an extra nightly cost of pitch for that site.
If you phone or try to book on line you may get a problem with the Head office staff as they don't know their own rules I would always recommend you contact the site you want direct and tell the manager the exact size of your tents footprint, you may have to mention the clubs size limit if they start to say how big your tent is if it is within the size limit and this size limit is only for your tent and awning tent(pup or kitchen) and does not apply to your vehicle , trailer, or guy ropes.
All the best
Rex.
Some of the C&C Club pitches are a lot less than their minimum size so occasionally they may have a vacancy but the pitch will be too small for your tent even though it is within the clubs max size limit but they will not be able to accommodate you. Quite a lot of the managers are beginning to take thing into their own hands a quoting size limits less than the clubs official size.
Please report these sites to the clubs customer service.

Rex.

Does the extra width of the small porches on the side of Montys count with people like C&CC? If it does then it takes the width of a Monty to over 5m
Concern about this is one of the reasons we opted for a Vermont - long but thin.
Hi Hairywol
This all depends on the size of the pitch most the clubs serviced pitches are set out to a standard size and should two over sized tents pitch side by side on these pitches the the six meter safety zone would be compromised so the manager as and should refuse your oversize tent to be pitched on that pitch.
But most of the standard pitches do not fall into this category most of the time, and you would be allowed to pitch your oversize tent on these sites, the exception would be in the High season when the managers will try to get as many units on the site within the six meter rule,
So they may not let you pitch with a extension that over laps the safety zone. so it is always wise to tell them as they may decide to move you to a slightly bigger pitch

Rex.
