plastic and steel can get condensation in the temperature differences between in and out and plastic ofcourse isnt mouse proof ,i drilled scores of 5mm holes in my steel trunks to get some ventilation going.
we did store some old tent fabric in a vacuum bag in a shed.although the fabric was bone dry when it went in but when we looked in the spring it had condensation inside

Our loft has THINGS in it..........................
I have no idea what they are but i hear a tap tap tapping every so often late at night and i have found shredded plastic up there so logic suggests birds but i do like to think its friendly aliens who just need a warm .
The garage is out of the question due to damp so we keep it in a wardrobe with some extra shelves fitted.

that sounds more like mice than birds to me. Don't birds sleep all night? and mice come out to play at night? And they 'd be more likely to shred plastic to make a nest than birds, I would have thought.
or it could be rats - a friend of mine had that problem and it took alot of work to find out how they got up there, and to stop them and repair the damage
he even had the horror of opening the hatch and a rat falling on top of him - nice
The tap tap tapping noise just sounded bird like as opposed to mice like but i'm not certain either way.
The idea of a big fat rat up there does appeal

------------- Give a monkey control of its environment and it will fill the world with bananas.....
My sister put hers in one of those plastic shed store things. (Like a miniature shed)Waste of time, it was completely soaked, where the wind had blown the rain in under the door.
In the garage... in the tent bag - haven't seen any sign of mice in there, but no doubt there are - but why would they want to nibble a tent bag? just for fun? there is nothing inside it that they would smell to get at, and its not exactly comfy fabric for bedding?

you'd be surprised how many people have had their tents eaten by mice .
Sadly my tent has been sat in the corner of the living room since we got back from the May bank holiday. too lazy to drag it upstairs to the wardrobe and can look at it in corner and dream of camping!
a couple of years ago we converted our loft into a play room for the kids, fortunately they now don't bother to go up there so it makes an ideal store room for all the camping gear apart from the hardware like cooker, gas bottle, table chairs etc which stay in the trailer tipped on end in the garage just waiting to be hitched up.

The only living thing in my loft is the cat!! His favourite trick is to climb the loft stairs! Tony you can borrow him if you like, then you can store your vango up there safe in the knowledge that it isnt being got at!!
Also if you are stuck for storage, i could find you a rodent/bird free corner of ma loft.. It too has been converted into a dumping ground for the kids! Nothing worse than being kept awake with the fear of something getting its teeth into your vango..
We keep our tent in an outside lockable storage unit with the rest of the camping gear. It has been out there for 2 years and hasn't got wet or had any mice in (yet!!). Will be buying a trailer very shortly as just had a tow bar fitted so we will then be able to keep it all in the trailer in the garage ready to hitch up and go . Will check for mice first though as did have a family of them out in the garage a couple of years ago. Made a nest under the lawn mower over the winter

we had mice in our shed - they ate the parasol , the rubber grip off of the garden tools and a bottle of car polish - would definitely not leave the tent in there if they found car polish tasty!!!!
the small tents go in to the loft with the weekend and week kits. the week tent has to stay under the bed though as neither of us is strong enough to lift it up into the loft!!!
