Hi, need to buy lamp before July's trip. I have a wind up one which is ok but a bit dim ( I think my hand would fall off before it got fully charged!) and gas one for outside....board games, cards etc. We have new vango aspen, so quite big area to light. Got a bit tired of grovelling round in dim light last year. How powerful are LEDs,......which strength12, 20, 30? Cant charge in car as it blows fuse. Like the sirius lamp, (think its outwell), but I find hanging a lamp up casts a shadow under it, therefore still grovelling round! Have just seen Terra Nova Orb light (worldofcamping) , looks more what I'm looking for but is only 7 leds. My daughter also seen stick on bulb, 60 wat,t which could be put on table. Also, which are better battery wise?Your knowledge on this very much appreciated. Thanks.
I can't comment on most of these, as dont have them. But I do have a UFO light, about 20 LEDs I think. Cheap from Poundland. I find it very bright and mine came with a "hook" so you could hang it up. It takes 4 AAA batteries which I haven't changed yet. But Isuppose it will depend on how long you leave them on for!!
We got one of these

Only used it on our first 3day holiday, and it was brilliant, very bright. Came with a mains adapter and a car charger, also runs on the built in re-chargeable batteries.
hi, like you i got the aspen aswell, we use ehu and got one of these from b&q lights up like the living room just hangs from centre of the tent, then use all the velcro straps to run the cable back to ehu.
Again if you are on EHU, £20 quid bought a set of Pyramid 'Gazebo' lights. Just 4 25watt globes along a set of flex, each with a loop of elastic to attach them to the poles.
Brilliant, and cheaper than the 'proper' awning lights.
My Parents and I bought our sets from White Arches, who didn't seem to know they had them, as when asked they had directed us to much more expensive lighting.
Fortunately my eagle Eyed mother spotted a stack of these in the corner!
Hi just read the thread have your cig lighter checked in your car usually the prongs are bent in slightly allowing a dead short across positve to negative when you push in the cig lighter if it is then it will allow you a greater range of choice

I picked up a fab tip from this site a while back and got one of these from POUNDLAND, it's identical to this one, even the packaging and I got a low energy lightbulb from sainsburys about £1.49 (one that dosen't blind you if you stare at it) and dosen't get hot so really safe if you're lighting up a tent
Hi and thanks for all responses. I dont have EHU, so I need bright, economical lantern. Thanks vhp for advice on cig lighter socket.... I dont really understand the problem, as I can charge a phone ok. My wind up lamp kept blowing fuse last year. I think theres a shortage somewhere.
another vote for UFO lights, great for attaching to inner tent toggles, magnets on the back of mine for stiking on table legs, cheap batteries a must. i even bought some to use at home in the loft/garden/pantry etc. got about five now.
Don't do what my missus did though - hung one up in a toilet tent at night so she could see what she was doing - so could everyone else on the camp site....ahem!
Thank you all for bringing up LED UFO lights.i've just popped to ebay and found a few, with pictures of how they should look inside a tent.I will buy a couple.
