This year I decided to be organised, i sat down for several days for it to sink in. The holiday plans were Leicester (space museum), norfolk for a week on a boat, Duxford for the IWM, coming from Edinburgh. I'm going early with the kids camping our way down, or so I thought. Honestly thinking about the 8 hour drive back up last year still makes me twitchy, we came off the boat feeling all relaxed and floaty and by the time we got home we'd all turned into axe murderers. I booked Bosworth Water trust (what a fantastic looking place I absolutely cannot wait to go) And have just tried to book a campsite with Camping and Caravaning Club (the friendly club, no point being in it if you're not going to use it) and I cannot book for 1 night from 11 july, not even mid week, I'd be hitting it on a wednesday, I was going to use it for a stop off there and back, With the help of rac route planner I'd decided the site was pretty much perfect I am not a happy bunny. But I can only have a 2 night stay. Am I being completely ridiculous, surely people need to stop off to get places, especially with kids, even more especially if they want to stay sane (it's all a matter of degree)
You can stay for one night at a C & C C site, but you cannot book it in advance. You turn up and if there is a spare pitch you can have it. They make every effort to fit you in if at all possible.
This is to avoid loss of revenue - they don't want to have to turn away folk who want to stay longer because the site is booked up with one nighters.
For a one night stop off, why not consider one of the many Certificated sites? Probably be cheaper as well.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
A lot of sites seem to say 2 nights only during peak times. Not sure why as the owners/wardens dont really need to do much (book you in show you round etc) so you are not taking up that much time! And no I dont think you are being unreasonable, sometime one night is all that a person can manage or want to do for lots of reasons. What a shame, is there asite near by that you can use instead?
Unfortunately with a 3 and 5 year old in tow you can't tour around campsites and hope one has a space, you may as well kiss your sanity goodbye, ah I already did that! And lots of the certificated sites do look lovely but usually the say "own san ess" Now when all we did was wild camp that usually meant wake up, get dressed, head for nearest coffee shop. The kids love an adventure but we have found out this does not stretch to toilets, although Sean does enjoy watering any grass he comes across. And I'm sure he'll put in another plea for a caravan, because he is desperate to use a caravan toilet, 5 years olds, honestly they are like aliens. I so do not want to carry around a toilet, visions of the kids drinking it.
I'm going to phone the campsite, because it really is in the best place and failing that, I'm not a particularly good pleader, give Brompton on swale a phone.
I am disappointed though, I thought having a tent gave you freedom to move around, try new stuff, not get stuck in the same place but campsites would just like it if you knocked it all on the head and just stayed around for a time that suited them and not you.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
