I book in advance for the first 2 weeks in August and bank holidays but apart from that I make my mind up and phone ahead to book a pitch anything from a few days before to the actual day. I got caught out once by pre booking in advance a particular weekend and then had a problem with my tent but the site owners have just kept my deposit and are allowing me to put it towards another weekend - problem is that I probably wont be in that neck of the woods till the end of September  am hoping for a late summer  otherwise my deposit ( which was actually full payment for the weekend ) will be lost as they will not carry it over to next year
