I'm looking at trying some glowsticks for our six year old boy when camping, but the size/range is baffling to say the least. Can anyone tell me what they recommend or use, I have seen anything from 1 1/2" up to 8" and 5mm to 15mm in diameter and just about every colour under the sun, is any size/colour suitable for a night light.

Many thanks

Ian

Tesco's are selling reduced wind up torches for about £3-£4. One minutes winding gives about 20 hours light so I bought one and just put it at the kids feet. They were happy as Larry!

ITooley, the best ones to use as nightlights are the thick 6" ones, like these, although for safety reasons I never put them on the string if the kids are taking them to bed.

We use one of these, http://www.tclproducts.co.uk/ba7025.html and the night light setting (which is a low amber glow) will run up to 60 hours on a full charge. None of us are afraid of the dark, but the the low amber glow is a great help at 4.00 a.m. for the middle of the night loo rush, no more stubbed toes.

My kids don't really have problem with the dark, but this year as a bit of fun I bought glow sticks from the pound shop they loved them.   My youngest did have her glow bear with her, so from the outside we looked as if we were having a disco!!!

just watch the old glow sticks as the cheaper ones sometimes leak if played with too much - My daughter had one on her wrist in bed and it leaked all over her bed clothes. I never managed to get the stain out.
