When camping in spain last year, this was the done thing. If you no longer wanted something then you left it beside the bin.
We left 2 wetsuits lots of citronella candles, the kids crocs as they we getting a bit small a boat and ors and a chair lol
Other people had left tents, gazebos, ground sheets all kinds of inflatables a table, stove windbreaks ground sheets, mens sandles loads of bucket's and spades sun loungers and a fridge etc lol
It was nice, the people next to us got our candles it was good to see them being used instead of in the bin.
We picked up some body boards for the kids which had been left next to a bin a couple of years ago, when we went home we put them back so someone else could enjoy them.
When we first started camping we had one of those plastic tables that has seats attached, this served us well for 3 or 4 years but then broke such that if you sat on one particular seat first the whole thing collapsed but if you sat down on the other seats first it was fine. Anyway after camping in the IOW we decided that was that and we left it by the bins - it looked like it had nothing wrong with it when it was folded up. About 15 minutes later we went back to the bins and found it gone - I wonder how long it took the new owners to realise it was broken!!
I never seem to get bargains but I'm always giving things away on freecycle and to charity shops. But for the first time ever I got something today and I'm so chuffed - its an outwell windbreak for £10, which was advertised on pre loved.
I just had to tell someone

In 2005 on shell island after a particurlarly gusty night i think all the campers on the island left their kit in the skips, we had an industrious hour collecting enough spare bits to last us until doomsday
Rather than finding stuff by the bin we have been fortunate to be the recipients of bodyboards and a wetsuit from campers for whom they were surplus to requirments.
Jiost shows what a friendly bucnh us campers are
------------- We only go camping to see what we have forgotten and what we need to get for next time. If only we could remember where we put the list..................
Our neighbous last year offered us a tray of eggs he did not want to take home whick we gratyefully accepted. They were the best organic double yokers ever!!!
------------- Oh am loving the tin tent after campaining against it..........I was wrong.
Three years ago we went to a site near home for our first camp, as we do every year in case we have forgotten anything we can whip home for it. There were 4 caravans that were going to be scrapped, in the winter storage area. and i asked the site owner if i could have some bits out of them .He said take what you want. I got a fridge in perfect condition ,10 X 12 volt strip lights 2 brand new spare wheels An 110 amp hour leisure battery that i am still using after 3 years ,and a good as new caravan oven. I asked how much he wanted he said youve took them out you can keep them
