We have both types of stove. When we go camping with bikes we really need to keep the weight down, and use the suitcase stove. I found that one cannister lasted about 5 days, but that was with a couple of evenings eating out, and not used every lunchtime either.

We took two cannisters with us to Holland last year, and they lasted us two weeks - I think we only ate "out" one evening.

One thing I found was that I didn't see any cannisters abroad! But then as our only mode of transport was the bike, we were limited to where we looked!

I always take the larger, traditional stove with us when we camp with the car - mainly as it's so nice to have the room for more luxuries! Packing clothes for 2 weeks into a pannier is quite an art!
