Hi, We are off to the Vendee in mid August and I'm not sure whether to take our thick sleeping bags (can throw them off if hot but take up lots of room in car) or our buget Argos ones (were cold in these on Cornwall last August, had to buy duvets in Asda!)
What do you think, are we likely to have the odd chilly night?
we went a couple of years ago at the end of june and it was stonking hot, even when it rained it never cooled down. At 10pm it was still registering 78f.
Have only been cold once in France and that was last year in Biscarosse - think we were damp as much as cold as it was stormy and rainy for 3 days. A quick trip to the supermarket for a 5E fleece throw solved it - and I was the only cold one - even son in his paper thin Action Man bag was fine.
I would take your thin ones as long as they are '2 season' - you can always shove on some clothes if there is a cold snap. Put a couple of fleece throws in as well for good measure - IKEA have them for about £3.
i bought reall warm sleeping bags for this country and too be honest ended up a waste of money..they are just too warm!!! like the above reply you can always add layers if cold.. i was too cautious!!!
Thanks, will risk taking thinner sleeping bags, I've bought so many extra things this year (massive Igloo coolbox, camping toilet etc), the extra room in the car will be filled!
If you are in a coastal town then it does get quite cold at night. Whilst daytimes can be lovely and warm in August, the breeze from the Atlantic, and little cloud cover does mean occasional chilly nights .
If you are going with lightweight bags then I'd recommend packing a blanket with each bag, which means you can at least be warm if it is cold, and can ignore the blanket if it's too warm at night.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
