The fire ring should be set away from your tent. I really miss my campfires and have yet to have one here. We've had lots of fires in my 35 years in the states and have always been safe. Have a bucket of water ready if you need it but you should be fine.
Starting a good fire:
Get some paper balled up in the center then place some twigs and dried leaves on top of that in a pyramid shape........then just place a few logs on top of that in the same way. Light and blow gently and you have CAMPFIRE!!!
Enjoy: have some smores, hotdogs, and marshmallows for me.
Start with you kindling (newspaper, dried grass) in the middle, you are making a pyramid shape, next add some slightly larger twigs/wood, have some larger pieces of wood around the edge. Light it, once the centre is going, gradually (but not too slowly) add larger bits, these are the bits that will keep your fire oing for a period of time.
Or you can follow this method http://guidinguk.freeservers.com/firelighting.html
Hi frizzbomb .Im off to a 'allows campfire' site on Satuday and i had a few worries too.Im told we can buy the right kind off stuff to burn off the site owners ,as wood spits. Also there arefire pits on the site im visiting so i will have to pitch tent accordingly. All the best.
Hi, I call camping when you can have a campfire I cheat and always use a fire log which you can buy from most supermarkets at £1.48. I start buying them about 8 weeks before I go, place in fire pit burn the ends add wood coal etc.
Where are you going? We went to Aberdulais last year and the campfire made all the difference in the evening (see my review). This year we've booked in at another campfire site but would appreciate any recommendations.
Hi all, ta for all the fab advice!!! the site provides all the burning material so to speak, so I'll just pack a newspaper and some firelighter thingies.
MamaBear, I have just bought the biggest bag of marshmellows from woollies today - lets hope they last till next weekend, without me and hubby munching them all beforehand!
Hatmanlon, the site it Priory Mill Farm in Brecon, small site, but only a few mins walk to Brecon and then for walks in the hills too - all our sites have to be staggering distance to (or rather from) a pub!!! This site is on the campsite search and has also had good reviews.
Will let you all know how I get on when we come back!
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
