Ive Never had anything stolen from me camping - well apart from a barbie cover that I got from poundland and TBH it more than likely blew away. That was a few years ago at flower of May. I have been at a couple of campsites that i was slightly aprehensive about leaving things in view, but I've ALWAYS been proven wrong. There is a definite unwritten rule where others possesions are concerned on campsites. Its brilliant that there are people out there willing to look out for you. Camping is just brilliant, there is no other way to look at it.

Cool campers use Delta Pegs.
The happiest people aren't the ones who have everything they are the ones who make the most of everything they have
Seems a bit daft to me to put stuff away over night or when going out. Invariably it will be put away in a tent or an awning and a sharp knife is all that is needed to gain entry and steal.
I use a small electronic gadget, battery powered, with a long extending cable that is wrapped around precious stuff. When the end is plugged back into itself it forms a circuit. If this circuit is broken by cutting the cable, or the unit is moved or jogged, 10,000 decibels (estimate) enter the ear drums of anyone within a huge diameter.
Trouble is I hardly ever use it, being of the most trusting type myself.
I've notice ice packs been mentioned a lot and it brought back funny some memories. Camping with my family and my brothers family, sent the fellas to the freezer for ice-packs and they brought back someone elses - said they didn't know we'd got names on them!!
