We are off on Thursday for a week at Park Foot with myself, hubby and 4 kids.
How many sets of clothes do you suggest to pack for the kids? Most of their clothes are lightweight tops and trousers which are easy to wash through and dry relatively quickly and a couple of fleece's each! I know it will really depend on th weather as to how many clothes they go through but space in the car is going to be tight!
We are setting off this week for 3 weeks in France. Each of us (2 adults, 2 children) will have 2 pairs of shorts and 4 T shirts each. 1 fleece and 1 pair of long trousers. Space is at a premium so easier to fit in a box of washing powder than more clothes!.
I used to take one outfit per day plus about three or four 'spares' for the kids - now, depending on how long we are going for, it works out at one per day, in a mixture of warm and cooler weather clothes. If there is a laundry on site, it is easy to rinse through lighter clothes and either hand them outside the tent or use the drier. If need be I would scour the charity shops. I did this a couple of years ago, when unbeknown to us, Alice had taken the coat that we'd put in the car, back into the tent. We get to where we are going, only to find Alice hadn't got a coat. Once charity shop visit later, she had a lovely little 2 in 1 coat - a little big, but it did the trick, and was used for school.
Thanks for the tips! I am sure if I left my 12 and 13 year old sons to pack for themselves it would be 1 t-shirt, 1 pair of 3/4 lengths and a couple of pairs of undies and socks (if that)!! My 5 year old daughter on the other hand would be packing up the entire contents of her room so not much difference between a 5 year old and a 16 year old girl!
I am usually one who packs fairly well but have the habit of packing other items "just in case" like Moonseeker, but as there is a launderette I will try and be strict with myself!
You have to decide how often you want to wash - we go for 3 weeks and for me its every 4 or 5 days or so.
So I take for each person 1 fleece, 1 pac a mac, 4 t-shirts (+wear one), 2 pairs shorts, 1 pair trousers (+ wear one),1 swimsuit. If theres space the kids get an extra t-shirt and trousers.
We take cotton type trousers that can be rolled up and that dry quickly and hubby has the sort of trousers that zip-off to shorts. 2 of the t-shirts at least for each person are 'sports' quick drying ones that you can squash really small and they don't look creased at all. Sons are all football tops, which are fantastic for camping.
My boys are all into the football type tops too and they are great for drying quickly without ironing . I have bought my third son a couple of regatta tshirts of the same fabric. Daughter has a couple of pairs of Regatta crop trousers which are also quick drying and none iron so hopefully the kids are all sorted and hubby too. Just need to get myself some non iron clothes... I feel a shopping trip coming on
Costco have Nike Stay-Dry t-shirts at the moment in the mens section for about £7 - hubby took them this weekend on a 'trial' run as he thought they would be sweaty - but deemed them a success. Only problem is he likes a collared t-shirt as he burns round the neck.
They also had the zip-off cargo trousers for about a tenner.
Noticed as well that Decathlon had mens quick-dry type t-shirts for about £7.
We are coming up to Park Foot aon Saturday for a week, the missus things she's packing for a month with all the things she's got planned for the case ....
We also are governed by the size of the boot, but i can't seem to make her see sense ...
Over the years I have kept my eyes open for travel clothes in sales - the kind that can be handwashed and drip dry overnight - so you can even handwash in the sink/bucket in your tent, and hang to dry even if its not that warm. They tend to pack down small as well. Worst things to take would be jeans and cotton sweaters as both get heavy when wet and take an age to dry. And I tend to sleep in whatever top I wore that day rather than take PJs, unless predicted to be very chilly in which case ints head to tow powerstretch!
