Hello!

To cut long story short, I was a member on here about 6 years ago, different user name and all. I had a big sunncamp tent. Got fed up of trying to pitch the bloody great thing on my own (other half works a lot, not really into camping) so I thought thats it I'm getting a caravan. So I did and bought a little vintage thing off of ebay and did it up. We went out a few times, me and my 2 kids then I went and had another baby in Dec 2007. I realised my lovely little caravan would not be big enough so decided to sell it (...sniff...) and come back to tents. So after much faffing have purchased my sparkling new tent today. However I have gone and bought some stupid big tent again which is everything I didn't want but being greedy and mean I couldn't help but have my head turned as it was reduced and had loads more room than we probably need, Yes, I will be swearing and stressing trying to put the bloody thing up, thinking 'why the hell am I doing this' but I can't bloody wait!!!!!!!

I just love your enthusiasm!! I hope you manage to get the tent up without any hassle. I'm sure others will be only to help.

I really admire you for going camping on your own with three kids. It's a lot of work for one adult (or maybe we just make it more complicated!).

Have a great time!

Welcome back glassofwine

Sounds like the sort of thing I do all the time. My DH isn't keen on camping either so what did I do,? bought a ten man tent for me and my little boy.

I have been back and forth with tents and caravans over the last 10 years and currently have 3 tents, a six berth and 2 eight berths,

DH still not keen, but me and 9 year old son , and my daughter and 2 grandchildren go off whenever we can.

It'll pobably work out okay, as long as you have help to erect the tent. But you sound pretty determined, so you'll probably manage it on your own.

DH drives us there and helps us set up, or my grown up son does. Then picks us up again a week later.

Which tent did you get?

Ta for the replies

Well beefysmum, I got a sunncamp cyclone??? Its an 8 berth. I had done so much research, on here and elsewhere trying to decide what to get. I had it all worked out, was telling myself 'don't be stupid...buy a practical tent you can put up on your own quickly'. I was thinking me and 3 little ones (they are 8, 6 and 7 months) do not need too much space. I also wanted something that pitched flysheet first as I have found that trying to drag a flysheet over some bloody great inner tent on your own can be very stressful, especially if windy! But yes, this new tent pitches inner first. I have briefed my daughter though. Shes 8 and I figure thats old enough to start learning how to pitch a tent on your own!!

This tent was cheap-£120, reduced from 200 and something. it was one of their clearance lines. Cannot find much info about it either so god knows what that means! Oh well, I can always sell it on ebay I guess!

Haaha , just couldn't resist a bargain!! All common sense goes out the window when faced with a good deal eh?

Well it looks a very nice tent, not much info on google that I could see though Sunncamp are a good make.i have a sunncamp eden 800 and its my favourite tent, very good quality. Previous years models never have much info available.

I would never say that with 3 kids you don't need much room, far from it the bigger the better imo.

Saying that, I've never had a small tent except a 2man dome we put up for the kids to play in. .

You'll have to have a practise run though, I reckon the inner first ones are more difficult to put up. I go for a tunnel shape every time myself, because I know i can do them on my own if I have to.

Since my 20 yr old son  has been dropping me off (this year)he's become quite an expert at putting the tent up, he never had to do anything much when he was younger, being the youngest at the time, me and DH did the tent, and he's not bothered camping much in his teens. He could do it single handed now though.

My 9 year old son is pretty useless at helping tbh, he can't even be trusted to hand pegs when needed, he's always off on his bike as soon as we arrive.

Your girl is gonna be trained young, thats the best way, she'll know you really need her help, whereas my boy knows he's not really needed. She'll grow up like you, not afraid of a challenge. and a competent tenter.

Go for it, and I hope it's a great tent for you.

My 9yrs old and I can put up our 'little' tent (which is still a 5-man with 3M x 3M of living space) in 15 minutes from start to finish.

I admire you though going for an inner first tent given the current weather!
