We haven't bought anything specifically low wattage for camping but like other people have mentioned we try to use one electrical appliance at a time so as not to trip the whole site.
I copied the following from another post some time ago as I thought it might come in handy. If it's wrong don't shoot the messenger as I only copied it myself!!!
10amp = 2300 watts
16 amp = 3680 watts
6 amp = 1380 watts
Most appliances have the wattage details on them so it's just a case of doing the maths. Good luck
------------- If you have a problem stressing you, sort it. If you can't, there's no point worrying about it coz it won't make a blind bit of difference!!!! Jules
We take an electric coolbox, a slow cooker (I prepare everything in the morning, pop it in the cooker and then we can eat when we are ready - wouldn't camp without it!), kettle, light, phone charger.
Electric coolbox, oven/grill from Lidl (gives a greater variety of meals), heater, lights, laptop for downloading photos onto plus we can watch DVD`s and Freeview TV via a dongle if weather is realy bad, phone chargers, travel hairdryer, travel iron (I take it all the time for some reason),toaster and electric pump.
I think I might like HU for things like cooking and a fan heater but what puts me off is the HU bit of sites tends to be quite clustered together and as we have dogs I quite like to be away from all the hustle and bustle. I think if I could find a campsite with nicely spacd out hu I'd give it a try. Does anybody know of one in North Wales?
We are going camping for the first time over the bank holiday. I have just ordered a EHU off ebay, it will come in handy for the kettle, light, ds' dvd and ds. I will need to get an electric coolbox, as i need to take milk for ds' bottles.
We are really excited, never camped before, so it will be an adventure. lol.

Hiya, Just reading your post, please be careful with anything you have ordered of ebay, unless it is a proper EHU. I seriously considered getting one from ebay when I seen the price ie £20 as opposed to £50 but after looking on this site I changed my mind, I have two young kids and would never forgive myself if anything happened just cos I wanted to save £30. As it happens I have not bought it yet been away twice now and not needed it so far....! Sorry if I sound a bit doom and gloom but please read some of the stuff on the site about the safety of the cheap hook ups and let it be and adventure for all the right reasons! x
These lists make me wonder why some people bother to go camping. Why not just stay at home if you're going to take all that stuff with you and sit there watching DVDs and TV?
An even better one is the question starting this thread off. Peggybabcot says that they are going to make use of a EHU for the first time and asks for recommendations as to what to take to run off it! Unbelievable.
Take what you feel you will need to enjoy your holiday. Light, Heat (if required), and entertainment if you feel the need for DVDs, telly etc. Its your holiday, so pay no attention to these "camping ettiquete police" that seem to crop up on these posts oh so often. If these people want to live like cavemen or women thats up to them, they shouldnt be lecturing the rest of us. I get so angry at their old fashioned attitudes. NOT EVERYONE WHO USES ELECTRIC IS ANTISOCIAL, THUGS, CHAVS OR LAYABOUTS.

Cool campers use Delta Pegs.
The happiest people aren't the ones who have everything they are the ones who make the most of everything they have
I am amazed at what everyone takes with them. We manage a fridge and kettle and with the rest of the paraphenalia there is no room for a spare matchbox. we are 5, in a khyam ultimate classic and a renault espace grande. No roof box mind you, roof is the preserve of surf boards, body boards and windbreaks.!!
just had two weeks away with EHU for the first time, things we took were straightners/portable colour tv/phone and ipod chargers and a mains power coverter to power my 12v cool box and 12v strip light, oh and the outwell fan heater not that we needed it...and the power unit was a proper sunncamp jobbie with all the trip buttoms etc and not an ebay cheap job.

A slow cooker!! What a brilliant idea! I use one at home almost daily but it never occurred to me to take a small one with us camping! Definately going to get a little one. Will take away 99% of my camping cooking stress! Thanks for the tip, Tinatyke!
A pleasure. Glad you liked the tip.
Get the cooking done - chillies, curries, stews, Chicken in lemon (yummy), bolognaise sauces, minced beef and onions, coq au vin - the worlds yur Oyster.
I love to cook, get everything fresh in the morning when we have decided want we want then it it goes. We go off for day, come back drink a few wines and the meal is ready, even if we have tripped over the guys a few times having drank a few wines too many.
Cheers!
We used to think we weren't 'proper campers' if we weren't half way up a mountain miles from anywhere with minimal equipment. Now 30 odd years later we wouldn't think of setting off without all the mod cons, it's funny how attitudes change...
We finally got EHU about 10 years ago when we couldn't cope in extreme heat without a fridge. Then we added fans, kettle and lights. Of course hairdryers and straighteners came next, followed by chargers for cameras/phones/iPods, DVD player, and now I've got my eye on a Remoska electric cooker to replace gas cooker and cylinder.
