We are just back from our first camping trip to France - good time was had by all. Had a couple of nights rain and found that I had a few drips coming through where the poles go over the top. The drips dried out on the inner but I didn't think that any should be getting through. My tent is 3 years old, should I have to seam seal it or is there anything else I should do to to maintain its waterproofness (is that a word?)
I would contact Vango direct and ask for their opinion as they claim they have a lifetime warranty on their tents. This is my email to Vango and wait for their response.
"""I received my replacement Zambezi 500DLX tent from Camperlands.co.uk on 01-08-08 due to the returned tent leaking. I took my family camping on the 11-08-08 for a weeks planned holiday to Cromer and had to cut our holiday short to two days because of yet again a leaking tent!
Setting up the tent my son and me were putting in the roof poles and we discovered that one of the side doors was not zipped closed and on closer investigation noticed that the actual zipper was not attached and that the stitching of the zip had not been completed. This was not going to spoil our holiday so we fully erected the tent and eventually managed to temporarily attach the zipper so we could close the door.
On the second day it started raining and to our astonishment all the window zippers started leaking and the attachments for the electrical cable and lantern along the roof skylight also started leaking. The attachments after a closer examination were not correctly stitched. In my frustration, after taking it out on the wife, I resorted to taking pictures of all the leaks (what a way to spend ones holiday). That was not all, it started to leak above the inner bedrooms as well. Two roles of paper towel scattered around leak points did help.
The next morning we ventured down to the beach not thinking about the wind, returned to our tent later that afternoon and the faulty door zip had ripped open and the tent was flapping around in the wind. We decided enough was enough and to the childrens disappointment, we packed up and drove home that evening.
When I received my replacement Zambezi I decided to look after my investment with the footprint groundsheet but with all the negativity associated with the tent now, I feel I am going to be at the loosing end. The Zambezi 500DLX clearly has issues and wondering if the 700DLX has the same. The tent broke our bank at £365.00 and with a fee of £27 for each faulty return and our optional £29.99 for the ground sheet, amounts to a £421 tent possibly £448. At that price we could have started considering poly cotton tents!
Camperlands were very helpful in the past return and still wish to keep my custom with them but this time I request a response from Vango as I am not in a financial position to yet again pay another return fee and I will be furious if the response I receive is `Have you been in contact with Camperlands regarding this?` If any pictures are required of the tent leaks, please let me know and I will forward them on. In the mean time the tent is sitting in my living room waiting for a desision of where to next."""
