We do use cat litter because we have two boys and I worry about the bucket being knocked over. You line the bucket with a biodegradeable bin bag and fill the bottom of the bucket with cat litter (the wooden pellet type). The next day lift out and tie your bag and you can pop it in the bin. Just a wipe around with a detox wipe keeps the bucket clean.
Mully how much of the wood pellet cat litter do you put in? I've been pondering this issue for the last 2 months LOL
Since buying my Luggable Loo, have only used it on very basic sites, Mainly myself and two young kids, husband makes the odd appearance. So it's been used for more than the odd night time wee, The Double Doodoo bags have been great, fully sealable etc Great for putting in with other trash, in the large bins... They're expensive and can't get hold of any.
This long touring trip we'll have my husband, so loo will be used less, but newly potty trained son will need the odd emergency dump I'm perfectly happy to take it to the toilet block and empty etc With 2 adults the logistics are easier, even with a long walk.
I have never used it at a campsite that has chemical toilet disposal, they've only had the one tap outside toilet / wash block, that is used for drinking water etc. I wouldn't want to rinse it out in sinks others will use for their dishes, or general stand taps used for colle
cting water.
I've heard of people using chemical cleaners in them, can you use household toilet cleaner of just the ones for camping toilets? I'm asking because my parents have a septic tank in france and are limited to certain types. Many campsites must have simiar issues, I'd hate to turn up and end up putting the wrong chemicals down the wrong place!

We saw the opposite. At a horrible site in Brean, a kid of about 5 or 6 years was drinking out of the hose at the CDP, but horror of horrors, his dad (presumably) was standing nearby & didn't bat an eyelid
By the way, if any newbies feel embarrassed about taking their bucket with a lid to the CDP, you could always get one of those red fire buckets
We've only used the bucket for wees not poos. If your son pooed in the cat litter I'm not sure if it would be okay to put it in the rubbish? Does anyone else know?
I'd say we put an inch or two of cat litter in the bottom and empty each morning. The cat litter does expand a lot when wet so don't overfill the bucket.
