We are going to north devon tomorrow. Its first time we have been camping with the family. We've been looking for a couple of years and finally bought the Outwell Vermont XL
We are going to a campsite which has had good reviews on this website but apparently it is quite windy their at the moment.
What is the best way to put up the tent to cope with the wind?
We have the plastic and metal pegs that came with it and we got some other plastic pegs too.
We have had it up in the back garden a couple of times

Hi.
Two late to buy delta pegs. But if you can nip out and get some long plastic pegs at least 9" long for your guy ropes and use the other plastic ones for pegging down all around.
You can use the wire pegs issued with your tent to cross peg your guy rope pegs. To do this your guy rope peg will be in the ground at around 40 Deg drive a wire peg across the front of the guy rope peg to stop the tent pulling the peg forward, you can use two of the thin wire pegs put across both ways, but do not use the wire pegs for your guy-ropes.
All the best
Rex.

We have just come back from two nights in Derbyshire, I am very pleased to report that our new Vango Tamor 500 stood up to very very high winds last night. I had to get up at 2am just to check everything was still ok (I am a worrier) and all pegs were still in the ground. I had no need to worry the tent was still in one piece. I could see the porch pole really struggling and I honestly thought it was going to 'snap'. The fun began this morning trying to put the tent away, my god I thought we were in January it was so windy. I really hate putting a tent either up or down in very high wind, it is really a challenge!! Well done to Vango, a very sturdy tent that definately withstands high winds.
We've just come back from a very windy few days at Stoke Barton Farm in North Devon. Unluckily for us we arrived and departed on very windy days but though it was challenging to put the tent up and take it down in the wind we did manage (with an extra pair of hands!). I think that for pitching the tent you have the advantage over us as ours pitches inner first (one major disadvantage is that you are without guys until the the fly is on and tied down which means that you need an extra person acting as a "human guy" until you're done) but yours doesn't. I'd suggest talking it through first and work to a plan of how you're going to approach it. Also make sure you keep communicating whilst you're pitching it so that you can make sure you're working together. And of course, get your guys out asap!
With regards to the pegs...we only have wire ones and we (and the tent!) survived very well. All guys were pegged with one peg at the normal 45 degrees and another across the top to take some of the strain, we also double pegged the corners of the tent and other strategic points. Guys and pegs were checked every day, but none of them shifted even though the winds were very strong at times, with gusts even stronger. The afternoon we arrived we went out and I must admit that we were half expecting the tent to be damaged when we got back but I'm glad to say it wasn't ;-)
just getting some kit together for if its windy when we go away at the end of the month, we've got the Delta pegs and Line Loks (both look really good), about to order some Clingons (just in case) but not sure which size to get (mini or large), any help would be appreciated.
