Hi All.

Went shopping yesterday and took on board previous advice here to try discount shops for little bargains, I did and the following may be of use to others here.  I did my shopping in Sunderland though I assume these shops will be nationwide...hope this helps.

Poundland

Rubber Mallet £1, 2 Aluminium Mess tins £1, 6ft x 3ft plastic-backed picnic blanket (just gonna use this for our living area) £1 and camping washing line with hooks and pegs £1.

Home Bargains:

300gsm sleeping bag £2.99 down from £19.99 (will be a useful spare for that price), they also had picnic sets for 4people with rucksack down to £6.99 which looked very nice.

Wilkinsons

Self inflating bedmat £6 down from £12, foot pump £2.99

Not going on my first camping trip til Thursday but couldn't refuse these bargains.

Some brilliant bargains. Just one thing, beware of that mallet from Poundland - Ratty bought one, and it snapped on first use, and nearly hit him in the face !

My daughter's made a nice little sum just lately...Buying up garden gnomes at the poundshop for...wait for it...a pound. She's been flogging them for 9 quid a time on a well known auction site.

Experience indeed from our admins!!

I loved the line about the gnomes, really made me giggle, some people really will buy anything, good for her initiative!

I've just come back from town - the local Woolworth's had loads of outdoor stuff marked down well below half price.

Citronella candles 25p for 4 (long skewer type)

Citronella candles in glass holders - 50p per pack of 6

Plastic cutlery/plates/bowls/tumblers - all 25p per pack of 4

Ice blocks - 25p per pack of 2

Kids folding camping chairs - £3

Picnic rugs - £3

23L Cool box - £5

Electric cool box - £10 (not sure how good it would be though - have no experience of these things!)

Cool bag (can't remember size in litres but it seemed a decent size) - £4

Camping stoves - £5 (the ones which take the butane canister - again, don't know what these are like. Maybe someone could advise me?)

Loads of other nick-nacks. Definately worth a rummage round. Especially if you're just starting out like me and don't want to spend a fortune until you see how you get on.

I dare say they have loads of outdoor toys well reduced too but I didn't dare take my pair to have a look - they'd have wanted everything!
