we are due to go to this site this thursday(21 aug).we paid in full months ago.because of the bad weather we have been having i rang them today to enquire after the condition of the pitches.i was told it was a quagmire and under water in many places.mud everywhere, turned up by vehicles.people were turning up for their long awaited break and having to return home. the lady on the phone said that were we not to camp,we would not be entitled to any refund at all.i found this very strange as my wife works at a very similar camp in north devon and, because the pitches are waterlogged, they are giving full refunds.
That doesn't sound right at all, they must be the only site that prays for rain. I'm not sure of the legal position with something like this though. We got rained off a site in the New Forest and were offered a credit note, but we'd only paid a deposit so it wasn't too much.
That sounds dreadful. I had a lucky escape - a few weeks ago I posted asking for peoples' views of this site because I wanted to take my children to the Country Park. In the end I opted to stay at the C&CC site at Lydford and buy a day ticket for us all. I should be there now but Lydford rang at the weekend apologising for cancelling my booking due to the site being water-logged and said a lot of other sites in the area were the same and they gave me a full refund.
I think it is unrealistic for them to expect you to camp in a sea of mud and what good will that do their ground anyway? You can hardly go knowing you'll be turned away - very bad customer service.
