We've had rain and wind by the bucketload. Ive been up at 2am moving and repegging the guy lines, we've had the tent lie sideways with the wind, broken two carbon poles clean in half (and used the old isulation tape fix it method) and regularly had to chase the windbreak. Scratched my car, had it bashed in three sep car parks and got it covered in mud. But before you think im complaing, without doubt the BEST two weeks holiday ive had in ages!!!!! It was great, wouldnt have changed a bit, even the bits wherre i had to push the tent out to stop it snapping, but it didnt leak!!!
Proper camping, my OH had only been once b4 and never complained, in fact where off again soon she loved it so much. For the record we had 2 days where it didnt rain at all.
But this proves never ever ever let the rain put you off, make it fun. Where British we are used to rain!!!!!
O a small note for anyone would be, make sure you look up Pink Stuff on here, its a drink and got us through! amazing stuff! esp when there is only 2 of you!
Anyway im off to pack for another rainy weekend camping!
Well done - I am very new to all this (one weekend in an ancient tent) - have just bought a new one today and am already worrying about inclement weather - but your post has inspired me!
Well done. I had 4 days of rain with 2 under 5's and we done it, and were going to go on and camp elsewhere but our car broke down. We were towed home and my 4 year old has not forgiven me yet.!!!!!!!
Thank you all for your positive comments! I just think as we were on holiday and couldnt change the weather we had to make what we could! this cumulated in 672 photos as well as a waterproof film we used for when we were on our bodyboards (which along with wetsuits we bought on a whim!)
So go have a laugh! its only water and u will dry off trust me!
We're due to go on Sunday to Devon and the forecast ain't too good. We're experienced campers and have camped in bad weather before but I was being a bit pessimisstic. We've had some of our best times in the rain!
Thanks!

We've just got back from a very rainy and muddy 10 days in the peak district but again, we all had a brilliant time. The girls (8,5 and 3) loved it and mucked in amazingly. I found myself being almost grateful that the weather was awful because the girls didn't fight, argue, complain about what clothes they needed to wear or moan about anything!!!! In fact this morning when we got back and they plopped in front of CBBC while we unpacked, they immediately started fighting and "didn't know what to do"
When can we go again???
Bring on the rain!

Good on you Alan, think we must have been on the same holiday. One of the highlights of ours was that ten mins after we arrived at our final pitch (long story) my DD got out of the car and fell over in the mud. I unfortunatley had lost my sense of humour and told her off (to put it mildley) you should have heard me I was sure she had done it deliberatley, that was it we were going home!!! imagine the kids and my OH's delight when a couple of mins later it was me on my bum in the mud it gave us the laugh that we needed to get though putting up the tent in a mud bath and a ten force gale. A few mins later we gave the whole site some entertainment when our Vermont XL (which he hadn't finished pegging out properley) took off with my husband inside it. Luckerley half the campsite came out to help (and laugh) tent has a few holes but we met some really nice people. See Alan at least you were only chasing the windbreak, not the tent!!!
Glad I'm not the only 1 to survive the last 2 weeks in the awful weather in the south west. Only thing is I had my OH complaining about the rain every 2 mins
