because of a fault, how long before you bought it and asked for an exchange? I have an Idaho XL on order that is too big to put up in my tiny garden! We hope to camp during the October half term (Brrr!) but if there was a fault, would it be too late to exchange?
I think it depends on who you got your tent from, what is their returns policy on faulty goods? We too couldn't put our monster tent up in our back garden so luckily pitched it at a friends farm, it's a pain when your tent is bigger then you garden.
If I was you, i'd see if there was any place that you can pitch your tent before you go away. After my experience, i had 2 Vango diablo's in the space of 2 weeks. First one had something wrong with the bedroom lining. They exchanged it no problem. But we didn't have time to pitch the second one before we went on a 2 week holiday to Devon. This tent was worse than first! It had a hole in the fly, stitching was coming apart, toggles missing, leaked in one bedroom, quite badly(!) etc,etc! We rang the camp shop up whilst on holiday, with all the faults, and they just said bring it back when you get home. We did, but this time we asked for our money back. We've now splashed out and bought an outwell wolf lake 7. I find outwell better quality, but that's just my opinion. Our tent shop, Winfields have been exteamley helpful. We didn't purchase our wolf lake from them, as they don't sell it, but i would gladly go back time and time again and give them my custom. From us purchasing the faulty tent to the replacing it with a new one, was about 5 weeks. Just as long as you keep your reciept, i think many firms will be fine about it.

Go to your local park, piece of wasteland, scrub edge of the local playing field or whatever and test pitch it before you go. It's not unknown for tents to be missing a pole or some other essential even if it's not damaged, and you need to find this out before you go away, not at 9pm on a rainy Friday evening. Plus it's always good to familiarise yourself with how to put up a new tent before you hit the stress point of setting up with whinging kids in tow
I totally agree, it's always a wise move to get to know your tent before you go away. We put our up on the playin g field not too far from our house, if anyone asks what your doing tell them your not going to sleep in it just giving it a test to make sure all is ok
Most tents should have 12 months manufacturers warranty (Outwell do anyway) that covers leaks, rips etc. I've got the same problem at the moment and the shop have told me not to worry if i get the tent up before the 12 months and there is a fault. Personally I'm gonna go to a park
