well ive managed to sell both my tents, now we are trying to find one that is big enough but not as small as the vango. We have also booked our first trip since the reorganization of my life to spiers house in yorkshire.
What sort of size are you looking for? How many people? And what's your budget? Many of us look at the camping shop websites regularly...and then of course, there's always Ebay.
I have a 6-berth Leben that I have never used but will happily give away to anyone made redundant in the crunch as long as they can collect from Whitefield, north Manchester.
It's not the best tent in world but is head height and spacious... see www.tentastic.com
What you need is a box in the corner of the bedroom, we call ours our camp supplies box, every week when we go shopping we buy a tin or two of something, peas, carrotts, stewed steak, soup etc, maybe some instant mash, pasta and rice, by the time we go away it's enough food for the week more or less, then the food shopping money for that week goes towards pitching fees, we never go anywhere where it costs more than £12 per night, usually less
We choose a site within an hour (ish) of home so wee don't have to spend a mint on fuel and off we go, with a little forethought and organisation much is possible and whatever your situation my freind, you will benefit from a stress busting break
Chin up, dark before the dawn and all that
Hi Caster we've just started that, im awaiting some tins with my asda order and will lay them past, havent tried tinned stew before, is it good? should be a great time saver if i remember the tin opener, forgot it last time

------------- Love is like war: easy to begin but very hard to stop
aww this thread cheared me up i posted on another thread/ post about my hubby being made redundant in December after Ten years!!!! times are tough... bills etc, but i am hoping to try and get away in August i feel me oh and my son need it so much!
it has taken me years to get my equitment and tent right, so to sell it would be tempting.... as the cash would be great.... but as already said its just a quick fix! the people on this forum are the best and just reading everyones messages helps me to remember old trips and look forward to new ones!! lets just keep our fingers crossed for my oh and every other unemployed person at the moment
I am sorry to hear about your husband, unfortunately this recession has hit more people than I can remember in my working career. This year and whats happened has been very humbling for me, You don't realise how hard it is to get a job at the minute until you actually try.
What I will say is there are places you can get help, support and advice. My present employer AdvantageWM have set up a website to help people in the midlands and I am sure that other areas around the country are setting up similar. If you do need help or advice then the web address is www.supportwm.co.uk
It has a lot of useful links and advice to anyone suffering during these disparate times.
Other than that I was unemployed for 4 months and it was hard. I reckon in those 4 months I applied for around 200 jobs and with my experience and age I have never ever known that length of unemployment even though I have worked as a contractor for the best part of 5 years.
Just keep plugging away and always remember something better is within your grasp, but without plugging away you will not get it. As with most things its 99% perspiration and 1% innovation.
------------- Camped since 2008 and still loving it!
I will be advertising a frame tent shortly, along the same lines as the 'cabanon for charity' thread. This is a tent that is on the older side, and belongs to a friend of mine that doesn't want it, and is happy for it to go that way. I will post more as i get more details.
