I think the solution to the springer tangle question might be separate spikes with just enough lead for them to meet head to head(any longer than that will result in tangles) Also invest in some spikes with a rotating clip..this lets the dog roam in a 190 degree circle without too many snags on the spike...One other tip..dont just bang the spike in a few turns..Place a peice of wood in the triangular hole at the top and screw the spike into the ground(rather like you would a screw into some wood) The more boistrous and energetic the dog..the deeper the spike goes.....

def get a sig - although that didn't stop our ginger pooch from opening the zip with her teeth and running off down the campsite at some unspeakable hour!
We take a dog cage so our doggies feel comfy at night but they very often finish up in our sleeping bags. Windbreaks help keep Rhona quiet as she barks at anyone she sees and we got a couple of those corkscrew things so they could be outside. if you have 2 dogs you might want to put the corkscrews far apart so they don't strangle each other!
We have a jack russel and he absolutly loves camping, when the tent is taken out of the shed he sits on it until it is put in the car and then he sits in the car, there is no way we can go without him. Although we did once and had to have my son take him out walking while we packed the car! anyway back on track Mandy! We have a stake and he has a long rein and he just loves it, add to the fact that he is well walked during the day he is usually absolutely shattered by the evening and doesn't even care for chasing the resident cats if there are any. At night we usually leave him tied to his stake near his bed so that he is able to get up and go out if he needs to but if the weather is rough we usually just zip him in the spare room, if he needs anything he soon starts yelping! I would say that the constant fresh air will tire out your dog. Last year we went touring France Spain & Portugal and were away from home for more than 6 weeks, the dog came with us and loved every minute of it, so much so he seemed dreadfully depressed for about 10 days after we returned.

We took our 6mth schnauzer puppy camping at easter. He loved it! Sat, as good as gold, on his long lead whilst we put the tent up and slept in the pod with us at night. We are getting him a camping crate for the next trips as he tends to take over the bed and he is not allowed on the bed at home.
We put the tent up at home before we went and he had a good nosey around in his own environment.
The only problem is his tendency to bark when anyone passes the pitch but we hope to solve that one with wind breaks.
We took his bike basket with us and he had a grand adventure walking and riding at the edge of Dartmoor.
He's off to Cornwall with us at the end of May and the campsite has it's own dog friendly beach so he will be wiped out running around there all day :-)
Our black lab Bailey loves camping, he was just over a year old when we first took him. We don't have SIG but we take him in the bedroom with us at night, great until you get up to go to the loo, come back and he won't let you on the bed!! He did have a tendency to bark at people who passed, but windbreaks helped, which is why I can't understand people that are critical of windbreaks, they serve a perfectly good purpose, not just for breaking the wind, so to speak! We create an area like a garden with a fence I suppose, keeps Bailey in and diverts his eyes from what is going on elsewhere! Good tip about the towels, Bailey loves water, in fact we can't keep him out of it, he will find even the smallest, muddiest puddle and lay down in it, which obviously in a tent isn't good! We tire him out during the day, and to be honest, he settles really well at night, usually going to bed before we do, he just trots off into the bedroom and that's the last we hear of him for the night.
