We brave it too. We went to Holmsley in the New Forest. Friday night was okay, not too bad temperature wise, the days were lovely and sunny. Saturday night was bitterly cold. None of us slept that much. We don't usually go this early in the year but had a new tent and wanted to try it out. We had a fab time though. Just need to get me a heater that I can leave on at night!
Don't honestly think I could brave camping ever again, know I'm a novice but it's put me completely off! Already cancelled this summer's camping. Alison
sorry to hear that Alison - i'm a novice in that I've spent a total of 7 nights camping in my life, but know that high summer camping is a joy; this weekend just gone was just too early for the weather to be reliable.
Certainly was "taters" down in Kent Saturday night, below zero in fact and a hand which had escaped from my sleeping bag was freezing (reminds me of an opera) but my body was warm enough.
Sounds like your sleeping bags are about right Fawn. What you put underneath them is probably more important than the bag itself, I find an old fashioned blanket under a Thermorest and two woollen (not synthetic) travel rugs on top of the Thermorest and under the bag with a fleece liner in the bag is fine for this time of year.
Don't forget to pull your sleeping bag over your head or wear a hat.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
