I agree Val - the only reason that I may be giving a few of mine away, it that The Waterloo Partnership is a local project and the tents will come from my children's Scouting group as a gift to the newly formed group over there. The group is also sending out things like Neckers, Badges, and other scouting bits. It is unlikely that I will use these tents, and if they can be put to good use, so be it.

That's a lovely thing to do, Camping nutcase
I assume though that your motivation for this stemmed from the fact that you had no further need of the tents, not that you recognised your greed at having more than a single tent, and were subsequently driven by guilt to forfeit the excesses?
We enjoy all our tents, including deciding their merits, choosing which to use for a given situation and moving them on when we fancy a change. Diversity is the spice of life and based upon personal choice, when it comes to camping. Thank goodness!
We use all our tents at different times for different lengths of holidays and depending how many people are going. Its our major hobby and I dont think we should have to justify what we spend our money on to anyone (thought this was supposed to be a bit of fun)
I'm certainly not showing off!! Just answering the question.
is it some kind of kudos to own so many tents? or just sheer lack of morality, when you can afford to have so much unused equipment! when others live in dire poverty where a tent is a life line?
perhaps a donation of the odd spare tent to the likes of the red cross would be far better than asking you to post just how much you are able to show off your greed.
Well said Merry, Liddenham, Val and everyone else who has commented on the above post.
I, too, took this thread as a bit of fun (and read everyone elses post with great interest!). I have pondered over it all day - I am normally not one to counter - comment if you follow me (each to their own opinion and all that) but I am incensed that someone can judge what I and others do as a hobby as being greedy . Is everyone who collects 'things' whatever they may be also 'greedy'?
I have 'rescued' many of the tents I now own from landfill and have restored one to its former glory so it can be used by a family over the Easter weekend as I am unable to get away in it. Every tent I have bought has been at a bargain price and I have spent less on all my tents put together than many would have spent on one brand new one. I have a lot of tents which serve different purposes as do many on here. Furthermore I do not have to justify how I spend my money - do you know how much I give to charity? Or what voluntary work I do? No, because I wouldn't dream of advertising those facts on here - I merely join in with a bit of fun and admit I'm a crazy tent collector who would love to be able to get away more often in all of my tents but because of my fostering committments that is often impossible - hence the fact that I DO use all my tents albeit the majority of the time in the garden!
Mad, probably
Obsessive - possibly
Addicted - definitely
But greedy - I think not
