i am looking to buy a 24l elec cool box, so many of them around, need it for may half term and last for many years, have seen the wilko elec cool box, it doesn't mention if it can run of a ac/dc adaptor? this is where i am coming up stuck, do all elec cool boxes take a ac/dc adaptor?? is this a special one for the cool box or will a ordinary household ac/dc adaptor work just as well, have many of them hanging around the house.

Some have the adapter built in.

It's very unlikely you have one that will do the job. You'll need one that has a car socket outlet and can supply at least 6 amps continuously. From a quick google, they seem to be available from about £12.
some need a transformer. my new outwell plugs straight into the mains with a cable.it also has a cig lighter adaptor. my old coolbox needed a transformer
We bought an Aldi leccy cool box - mains or car ciggy lighter - excellent and much cheaper than any we've seen in other stores. Fully recommend it, but you will have to wait until they come in store!
