Pasta and rice as a staple. We take tins of fish (eg. makerel, tuna . . . ) to mix in. Try to take some ready prepared stuff. We don't usually have a cooked breakfast , instead we take bags of 'pain chocolat', and other cakes! Lots of chocolate!
I love one pot meals like Carbonara, Bolognese, Curry & my kids favourite Cowboy Casserole (baked beans, onions, new potatoes & quorn sausages) non-vegies can use bacon & normal sausages, trust me kids and adults love it.

Hi that does sound nice do you just throw it all in at same time how long you cook it for

Its simple, brown the sausages, remove from pan & cut into bitesize pieces while you cook the onion. Add cubed tinned potatoes or bacon for non veggies, fry till turning crispy, throw in a couple of tins of beans & stir till its warm through. You can add kidney beans, mushrooms or anything really. Its lovely with crusty bread or a jacket potato and so quick to do.
------------- Of course I can handle it...I have children
Mmmm, I too am getting hungry reading this thread!
It strikes me as a good idea to take some emergency picnic food for is the weather means you can't cook... on our first ever camping trip to Robin Hood's Bay the weather was vicious and I recall desperately trying to boil pasta but the wind kept on blowing out the stove. I think we had crisps and cream cheese dip, tres nutritious...
Subsequent (more organised) trips always tend to feature bacon cobs for breakfast, preferably with some fried tomatoes for me and a fried egg for OH. Or pain au chocolat/croissants with butter and jam. Generally out and about for lunch but if at camp bread and cheese and salad type picnic stuff. Tea - either a BBQ with couscous salad, pasta and pesto or those packs of caesar salad with griddled chicken. Yum! The cowboy stew above sounds v good - might have to give that one a whirl :o)
I'm really funny about meat as I cant stand fat, but M&S tinned steak is the only one I buy to take camping, add tinned pots and peas and carrots, plus 1 oxo cube and a little more water as we like lots of gravy. Served with crusty bread and its yummy.
Like most people I take the staples of rice, pasta, bread, stock cubes, biscuits, crisps and some homemade cakes/muffins/scones etc with sausages, eggs etc for fry up first morning. Also take tins and jars that can be used to make meals when buy fresh meat. If it is likely to be a late arrival will also cook down something like a chicken casserole, spag bol etc to eat that evening.
But for my girls as long as I have hot chocolate, biscuits and custard in the box then they are happy.

Another alternative to the spag bol is pasta with tinned chicken in white sauce, goes down well in our house and the girls always ask for more. The girls also like pasta with tinned meatballs. For puddings I will buy sponges and take packet custards (especially chocolate custard I love it). Thanks for the other ideas I will have to write them all down.
Tinned stuff yes collect them when on offer two for one in our house is one for now and one for camping. One pot meals are always exciting as you never know what will be in them.
Favorite afters, Bananas and custard
Once after reading on here about how you can cook spaghetti in a thermos flask tried it and it did work but don't have room to carry a thermos
So your on holiday have fun with your food, and it always tastes better in a field
Thank you to everybody's posts, we are camping newbies and I have loads of ideas now for what to cook my family on our trial trip next week and then our main holiday. I'm really excited now, I'm going shopping for tinned curry etc later.
