My wife has just run off with a younger bloke a few weeks ago, but I got custody of the tent and camping gear!! So, am off with the kids at May Half-term, but need reassurance from you wise people that everything will be ok! The kids are 8, 6 & 2, so (at least the two eldest)can help put tent up etc, anything else I should think of? Any other single parent campers out there? Are there any single parent campers meets? All help, suggestions and advice greatfully had!
There is a single parents section in the "meeting up and getting together" part of this site.
I have read about meets and apparently they are great fun!!!
Hope this helps and good luck.
Sorry to tell you this but your two eldest will be off playing football or something within minutes of you arriving on site, but don`t worry this is normal behaviour, this leaves you to put up the tent kit it out and then you can begin to enjoy yourself.
There are lots of us who camp without partner for a variety of reasons. People like yourself who find themselves on their own, or those like me, who have OHls who can't make it due to work commitments.
As you have the tent, I assume that you have camped before - so go enjoy yourself.
Yes there are single parent meets, I keep meaning to get to one, but because there has been so much illness in both sides of the family over the past few years I haven't quite made one yet.
The only big difference being solo with kids is that you have 100% responsibility for them. But at the same time it can be a chance to do a lot of close things with the kids, like snuggling up and reading a story, or just lying in the bedroom pod chatting.
If I go with Richard the kids are now old enough to be chased to the play area while we set up camp. If it is just me and the kids, they know that they tent must be up, and we must have somewhere to sleep before the fun starts. Last time I camped alone with them was almost 2 years ago, and they were 6 & 8 at the time, and they both new this, and helped accordingly. Get one of the older kids to amuse the youngster, and get the other to help. If need be swap jobs half way through.
hi sorry to hear that you are new single, i have been a single mum for 2 years now, my children are 5, 7 and 8 1/2, so similar ages to yours when i became single, as you are a camper you will know what the kids are like camping, bear in mind this will be the 1st time away without their mum, once you hit camp, i have a packed lunch ready, so we eat and then start to pitch camp, you have a large tent, make sure your kids will help out and not just run and play, if poss can you take another mate with you to help put the tent up, or ask on site, maybe a practice run before you go with the kids will be an idea of how much they can or can't do, once tent is up the rest is easy, you will have sole responsibility for the children 24 hrs day, have fun and good luck.
i manage to pitch an outwell idaho xl with 3 kids in tow, but my friend who always comes camping is their to help out.

Lol at custody of the camping gear.
Kids have an amazing knack of making friends and it sometimes feels like you need to put them on a bit of string and give it a tug to get them back to the tent for dinner ;)
They will be fine
As for you...there will be plenty of opportunities for you to get chatting to people too.
Your neighbours for starters
