Most sites allow a small pup tent on the same pitch.

Check first as some will charge you extra for the extra tent.

we just looked a one site, there pitch size was 3m x 3m

Any larger tents had to buy 2 pitches

no wonder they still have availability for the may bank holiday

Thats ridiculous! 9 sq. m?? They dont deserve any custom!

Re the four lads in a tent.....you need to make sure they arent running about at all hours causing upset, or you may not be over popular with your 'neighbours'.
