well weve done it.....got that first time over and done with.

All that time spent researching which tent we were going to get and what bits we were going to have and where we were going to go, it was sooooo worth it.

we'd never done camping before and didnt know if it be a great success or one of those bad memories that you try to erase from your brain.

we went to tanners farm park in marden in kent for a weekend, had gloroius weather after the initial forcast was for rain rain and more rain.

we didnt take anything that we didnt end up using, and have decided that we CAN manage without EHU.

the only down side was it got bloomin' cold at night and even with my vango nightstar 350 and a fleece and a small child as my 'hottie bottie' i was still cold for most of the night.

but it hasnt put me off, i cant wait to go again.

looking forward to having a whole week away next time.

Although I've never used it, or needed it, in the past people have recommended old newspaper or cardboard under the airbed as a layer of insulation.    Just throw it away at the end of your stay.

A base layer (blankets / newspaper /, cardboard, etc) then air bed, then fitted fleece blanket (you can get them in Argos for £10) and finally sleeping bag should leave you very toasty. The theory is that the base layer stops the air in the air bed cooling down.

I like your description of being a camping nymph... hopefully because you were dancing around and not engaged in other activities... but with a small child I guess not! Sounds like you're learning fast.

Put your fleece blanket inside your sleeping bag.Someting on the floor to put air bed on, someting on top of air bed to avoid condensation. If it gets any colder then another fleece inside bag will do.All the best

We are going to France in June, hopefully it won't be too cool at night but as one of the best things for warmth is another body we have a double sleeping bag/airbed combined.  If it gets cool then there is an easy way to warm up...

Good info re blanket/newspaper under air bed. I don't usually have a problem with the cold, but if I do get chilly, it's virtually impossible to warm up again.

Thanks
