We're booked for our first family trip this weekend, to the New Forest.
Our biggest worry (as always, I guess) is the weather as OH isn't convinved about the whole camping thing.
However, what we've cleverly done is book to go with her cousin who is, without doubt, the luckiest person in the world, weather-wise. I don't believe they have EVER been on holiday in bad weather - even last year, they had a week on the IOW in July and had great weather!
Just checked the BBC and metcheck for the weekend in the New Forest - raining hard on Thursday, dry and sunny for Fri-Mon, when we are there!
I think that, by the seat of our pants, we campers might be in luck with the weather just in the nick of time....though at the moment...you wouldn't think so...brrrrrrrrrrrrr
It always rains when I go to Wales - and yes, I go on thursday and they will get 20mm rain on Thursday. Looking a bit drier for the rest of the weekend though!
Yay! Fantastic news! A dry weekend is what we need. We're in Surrey, so weather looks good and dry for us.
We're not going away but we will be putting our new tent up for the first time in our back garden and sleeping in it. Need to check that there's no faults and try out all the gear before we book to go to a site.
Overnight lows of 6 or 7 degrees are fine for our sleeping bags, so it will be a perfect test for us.
Perhaps we'll do a camping menu and cook on the stove and BBQ as well. And I suppose a test loading of the car might be a good idea on Monday as we take it all down so that we can work out how to fit it all in.
I can't wait for the weekend now!
------------- Definately a fair weather camper. I don't like rain. Rain + Tent = Trouble.
2011:
July: Galpton, Devon
August: Duinrell, Holland
If you fancy a good day out while you're in the New Forest area. Head for Salisbury. Just befor you get there you come to a little village called Downton. They're having their Cuckoo Fair whicgh we've attended for the last few years. Live music in the streets, a couple of hundred stalls and generally a great day out.

Metcheck is the most useless site I've come across. Last week it was forecasting freezing temps and snow for last saturday . So glad I decided not to take any notice of it and booked the weekend., it drastically changed the weekend forecast every day.
We had warm sunny spells and light drizzly showers , and it was not at all cold.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
