i used to go camping with parents as child and loved it now want to take a 9yr & 5 yr old camping alone have been told a Kyham Rigidome would be ideal as can put it up by my self but they are very expensive new so looking in ebay.
any feed back on this tent appreciated
also looking for single parent friendly sites(not alot of money spare) in dorest or on south coast,
also is it worht having electric hook up (we never had it before)
my boys love the sea, and the outdoor locations so a mixture of both would be great
i still not sure whether 5yr old enough, but as i said it used to be good 20trs ago a bit of a community on site is that still the case?
We have an old Rigidome that our son and his partner now use. I've taken it away on my own and put it up although it's too heavy for me to carry in the bag so I either have to bribe someone or split it up. We got ours half price second hand (hardly used) and it's been out every year bar one for the last 12 years so it's a good investment if you can get hold of one.
I've got a friend who's a single parent and researched a tent for her a couple of years ago. She got an Outwell 4 berth vis-a-vis for under £100 which she can put up on her own and she's not very tall.

I'm sure your 5 year old (def not too young ) and 9 year old will love it. there are lots of single parent campers.
Electric is not esential, I camped with my grandchildren 3 and 5 last weekend , and we didn't need it, plenty of layers and good sleeping bags.
Can't help with sites , but I'm sure someone else will be able to advise.
there is a meet and getting together section which also has special meets for one parent families, although you would be made very welcome on any of the meets.
just be carfull on evil bay we got stung a few years ago with a tent we thought we was getting turned out to be totaly different,best to buy one from someone selling there stuff rather than a seller that sells lots of tents,or take a look on here free ads and put a wanted post in the free ads.good luck and the kids will love it mine are that age too.
Hi Jackie, I'm afraid I can't help with the tent as i don't know much about Khyams except they are a good quality brand. As for the EHU (Electric Hook Up) we started off without one and coped fine, we mainly use ours for the fridge, pitches are usually cheaper if you don't have electric, so if your trying to keep costs down I would say don't get one (a SAFE unit will set you back £50+ anyway). The first time we took my daughter camping she was 7 months and loved it. Both my children (DS 3 and DD 2) love camping and I think it's the same for most, so I would say 5 is definitely old enough.
The vango 5 berth tents , tamor / venture500/ apollo, (same tent , different names) is a favourite with mums as its easy to pitch alone and not too expensive.
I find all sites single-parent friendly. Your kids at 5 & 9 will have a whale of a time. I dont think i'd bother buying hook up until you know that camping is for you as its very expensive and not really needed. I hardly ever use mine except for camping in October when I find I need it.
Id use the campsite search to find my own site. As others looking for you may have different likes/dislikes to you. Just browse through the list and pick something you feel drawn to, perhaps not too far from home for a first time out?
Cant help with the tent im afraid. Ive always used a large 8 man tunnel when I camp with all my kids or a small cheap 3 man dome from Tesco when only my younger two want to come. If you struggle first time, ask for help. Most campers are very friendly and will lend a hand or a mallet or whatever is needed.
Most of all enjoy it as this first trip will one day be a fond memory of what a cool parent you were taking the kids camping!
