My now six year old wears vest, pj's, a fleecey sleepsuit [ called a snuggle] and then gets in a 2 season kids sleeping bag inside a ready bed, with at least one blanket over when i go to bed next to her. she sleeps really well !!!
just add an extra layer, dont forget that the morning sun can warm up a tent to the temperature of an oven!
some kids just have cold feet/hands
she is old enough to let you know if shes cold, accept this and you will sleep much better yourself, oly get up to her if she asks you to!!
like us adults, kids will wake up if they are cold and will moan like buggery till you deal with it!!
so if they dont - leave them, hypothermia will not happen if they have an extral layer to you, and you are warm enough
parents- you need to stop fretting so much, they are robust things (unless you have medical reasons contrary to this ) and tooooo many kids are getting ill so often coz they are being molly coddled and not allowed to adapt.
let her set her own comfort level, (and while you are camping , let her eat a bit of mud- suprising how good this can make their body's defences)
relax, and all of you enjoy the experience of camping - thats why youre going !!!

we have 18mth twins. they wear a cheapy babygro or long sleeve vest, then their pj`s with fleecy socks, then an all in one fleece suit £3 primark.they have vango nitestar baby sleeping bag, though after this year they`ll need bigger ones. Now for the pod, foil sheet on bottom, picnic blanket, kampa air beds where the sides come up,about 4 layers of fleece blankets, then their bag and a couple of fleece blankets on top, cosy! i figure lots of thin layers are best, also means that if they wake in night you can just lift them, bag and all, gosh it sounds alot but i too am obsessed about them being cold and its easier to remove a layer, though as long as their bodies are warm i shouldnt worry bout cold hands!!!!!!!
hi, i've got the nomad travel cot (with self-inflating mattress) with the sleeping bag for my 9 month old. we're going to bexhill-on-sea in may half-term, but have no idea how cold it will be as i have never camped then. the sleeping bag is from 2 years and up, or you can unzip it for babies and use it as a mattress topper. though as it is 4 tog, i was wondering if it would be better to use it as a sleeping bag for her and put a belt round the bottom? she usually sleeps in a wool winter weight baby sleeping bag at home, but i suspect that won't be warm enough!
on other threads, i have read that you shouldn't put hats on babies to sleep so as not to risk overheating, but are cotton ones ok then?
i'm beginning to get worried after talking to someone who camped in wales last week with her young ones and said it was freezing! we have camped before for a few nights in october just before i became pregnant, so not worried about the rest of the family getting cold, just the baby!
