Hi all - thinking about getting back into camping and we need some advice - we're concerned that if we buy too big a tent we may have to pay for two pitches. The tent we are thinking about buying is an Horizon 8 which is approx 740cm wide by 350cm deep - would this be classed as requiring a single or double pitch? I appreciate there are no hard and fast rules regarding pitch size but I would really appreciate some feedback from experienced campers regarding a tent of this size. Cheers.

Hi Robmoz, you should be fine with that size tent. tunnel shaped are much better use of pitch space, its the big spreading domes with 3 or 4 bedroom pods coming off in all directions that have the pitch size problems.

Hi robmoz,

You will be fine with that size.

The C&C Club pitches are 11m x 11m and the maximum unit size is 9m x5m.
I know other sites do vary but you should be fine.

Our tent is that  size and we didnt have any problems last year (its new!) so only have that to go on . It wasnt any wider than our old litchfield tent anyway and we had looked around for a while before deciding on tent size. It does appear that the width of a tent is more of a problem so 3.5 m is quite narrow compared to many. Watch out for some sites though as one we wanted to try wont allow tents over 3 x 6m (without charging double),  which to me is just silly. How many familys actually have a tent that small? Its always best to check first.

generally tents up to 5mts wide and 8 mts long are ok, but it always best to tell the site the size when booking.

You'll be fine with that tent. And it's a good tent, no hesitation recommending the Horizon 8. Also recommend the canopy to go with it.

Definately a fair weather camper. I don't like rain. Rain + Tent = Trouble.

The site I stay on has campers who use windbreaks - gazeebos - cars and just about any other item to hog great plots - so I dont see a medium to large tent causing too much of a problem - Its the care you take in keeping yourself in a sensible size area
