Please could anyone help?,i have just found out that my house insurance does not cover my tent when it is up,which i think is bizarre.
Could anyone please advise me on any companies that will insure my tent on its own?,as i can only find sites for trailer tents and caravans which is getting frustrating now.
You may be better off self insuring ( i.e. saving a little bit of money every month so that in the event that your tent is stolen or otherwise destroyed you have a replacement fund. My feeling is if the tent costs a few hindred quid and the chances of theft/destruction by fire etc are pretty small then it may be more economical to self insure.
Well our tent is covered anyway under the personal possessions part of our contents ins. though not for weather damage.
Googling up Camping Insurance gave this company as one of the links
http://www.eandl.co.uk/
Not that expensive it seems ( about £15 for £600 of tent pa), but I'd question whether it is worth it as well.
The risks are low - theft is very unusual, also fire, most likely is wind damage, and that's not that common esp. for a decent tent. Covering the cost ourselves of buying a replacement seems the best approach.
And take care with the restrictions on the cover. for example the co above, is new for old for first 2 years, after that it's market value. The market value of even an expensive tent is much reduced after a few years.
I doubt our Ridgipod setip would sell for more than £200 quid. New it would have cost say £600? We bought it all much reduced but new for about £300 -350 last year
Just a word of warning - on another thread here someone mentioned that they weren't too enamoured with the company you linked too. I would check it out before parting with cash
depends if you have money to replace ,wind is the biggest killwe of tents so do think about good pegs to tie it down and my tent can not be insured as it is not made now! I had mine with the caravan and camping club before but did not claim on it ,now i do not bother as it was quite dear!

I'd say insure it for the first 2 years just in case, and save up your own insurance fund.
You can bet the farm that after 2 years they'll declare the value of your tent is 3.5p or something.

Grateful for any advice received.

Your home insurer should add cover for this for around £35 per year, which is quite expensive. This would cover your tent and equipment AT HOME with new for old cover (up to 2 yrs)less Excess and Voluntary Excess, HOWEVER...
...Away from home in the car cover drops to £2500 with max. single item cost £1000 less E & VE, HOWEVER...
...Pitched outside (when you most need cover against storm damage) the max single item cost drops to £500 less E & VE. Not much use if you own a Wolf Lake or the like...
Don't quote me on these figures - just from memory when I checked a few months ago. Self insure sounds like a better bet, together with good guy and pegging out practice.

I don't think you can really generalise about this, this sort of cover varies from insurer to insurer.
Ours is covered under the personal possions section, which we would have anyway to cover stuff away from home, so there is no extra cost, I do think I specifically pay to insure it.
IIRC it is new for old cover,And other than a limit of no cover becuase weather damage (and things like wear and tear) there is no other limitations
Our tent is covered as house contents when stored at home. When out its on its own specified personal possessions for high value items you take away from home (same cover for you have for a camera etc). I pay £13 extra per year for £1,000 cover.
Many Thanks for all you advice,i think i will try and get some quotes with the above companies that were suggested,or self insure.
My tent is covered by my personal insurance while it it in its bag,but once tent is up the insurance company will not cover it.My insurers at the present time are a company who says every little helps (Tescos) LOL.
I have my home contents cover with the AA and for a small amount extra per month (I think it was approx £3), they will cover all personal posessions whilst away from home up to £1500 per item (this does include tent and all camping equipment as I checked with them).
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
