ok so the dogs have there own large canvas tent? plenty of airflow and shade, not much more you could offer, well watered and exercised they will be better off than folks in a nylon tent (lol)
My dog spent a lot of time behind the windbreak in the shade last week - you could put up a couple of high windbreaks and strategically place them for maximum shade!
It's nice to see a dog owner taking so much care over their four legged friends.
You see so many people who just aren't bothered. There's a house near us and they have a New Foundland. They were letting him run round in the 30 degree heat yesterday, him barking and clearly getting stressed.
We have a Flatcoated Retriever (a desendant of New Foundlands) and we have to be really carefull that he doesn't over heat. He normally goes for a swim and then gets in the shade. We always make sure he has plenty of fresh water that hasn't been stood in the sun all day.
There's not much else you can do, other than taking them for walks in the evening when it's cooler and letting them snooze all day in the shade.
our lot have very short coats but if they starts runnig around in this heat its bad news for them so hubbys been getting up at 3 am so they can have a walk but even then its been on lead only as there still daft and would over do it if we didnt watch them thats the trouble with whippet and greyhounds there to hot all summer and to cold all winter think this lot have more coats jumpers jammys than I have each of them. I just sent a load off to the rsuce that thay dont were now as there cupboard was overflowing lol. I think if I had a long coated dog I would searioly think about getting it cliped every sumer if this heats going to start being a reguler thing each summer
someone need to inverts a thing like a wind break that aculay give you shade but still lets the breeze pass though.
were we camp theres never any electic hook ups but we can use gennys so hubbys hoping to get ours looked at as its playing up so we can run a fan aswell.

I don't a such have an answer for you but, grass is a far better cooler then say a ground sheet or rug. Furthermore being totally outdoors is better then indoors. Overhead cover is better then sidways on.
SO, if they can lie on the ground with a tarp like cover a few feet off the ground creating shade, this will then also allow any breeze to circulate around them and will cool them better. Obviously plenty of drinking water, and if you can get them wet - even by pouring a little water over them, natural evapouration will create a cooler coat for them.

I dont offtent camp on normal camp sites with the dogs but i do know and have stayed on some that alwoe all my dogs. they do know us and how well there behaved and say ours are less truble than most peoples yorkis but we stick to small very basic sits as there quieter anyway and we do allways have 2 proper tenst with us at least if my other kids come there grow up now all in there 20s theres 5 tents no no problem sharing the dogs out between them were there a will there a way lol

It's probably not a lot of help on a whippet, as they don't have enough coat to hold much water, but a soaking is great for cooling down the lakies. Wet fur is the dog's equivalent of the wet tea towel round the butter imo!
We do flyball racing with our dogs and have been camping a lot during this hot weather. Our dogs sleep in the car which is crated out with all windows and back open and parked under a pop up gazeebo for shade. During the day if they are not racing I take them out for short walks and wee breaks I make sure I make their groins wet which cools them down soaking them in water is no good as it cramps the muscle in their backs unless your able to get them out for swim. Just make their bellies and groin wet. I then put them back in the car damp so the bedding stays damp too which helps keep them cool. They also have battery operated fans. I have seen a web site that explains how to make dog coats out of the water holding gel used in compost for plants. But I like the simpler idea of making a pad for them to lie on as suggested by Fran1000. You probably know all this already any how after all these years. I think the most important thing is to have airflow so lift the tent sides and let it flow. Enjoy Scotland.

what do you mean soft if you came here and they actuly botherd to get up they would give you a serious licking lol.
My frends given me an idea of making white towling jackets i can put on wet if there getting to hot probaly the 2 little vblack girls might do best with them as they get a lot warmer quicker with there colouring.
they have beach sheltters simlare to thatthey doss in when there on there ground spikes outside. but there leads are that long they all just end up dossing on our air bed anyway lol.
any there allways someone with them eather me hubby or my dauter we have spent the day all dayt at a dog show today and the ones we took have been fine allthough it is cooler now but most people came away looking like lobsters so was quite hot and the younger ones were fine. there the ones i was most concerned about as it there fisrt trip the oldre ones know he score and have senes to stay out of the sun and not get over excited but the young ones get silly but they were fined today. infcat they suprised me as i only took my namule wheelchair a=so had to tye them eather side of the chair there were loads of dogs about and they stayed by me realy well so they may be carming donw just a bit lol
