There is nothing to worry about, I am quite happy to take my kids without my OH.

Just go to family orientated sites.

I always have a firebucket outside my unit and a fire extinguisher by the cooker.    OK they may not be able to totally extinguish a fire, but could give vital seconds.
Also a bucket could be used in a water chain to stop a fire spreading.   Like many things in life, some of those things that we hope that we will never need, but if we did we would be so glad that we had them.

Also keep a sharp knife handy to cut my way out if necessary.    Kids know that this is not to be touched under any circumstances.    They have also been taught that if I say to get out of the tent, quickly, quietly, but NOW - they they get out.

At the end of the day, even if you have an £800 tent, there's nothing more important than getting everyone out safely, that been said, the knife is the most important tool, and you should only attempt to fight a fire if it is safe to do so.

As everyone has said, I'm sure you'll be fine and you'll have a great time.

Let us all know how good a time you had when you come back 17

I carry a fire extinguisher in the car all the time, as part of the kit for European travelling, and I have my car keys with me all the time, a knife close to hand, mobile with me all the time etc...

I only have Borda to distract me, and not 3 kids, so I can understand your concerns.

However, I am sure you will be fine, as you sound like you are very level-headed, and can cope with any uneventualities.

Have fun!

I have camped a lot with just me and the kids when they were little, hubbie was on shifts, so it was sit at home all the six  weeks or brave it. We had a great time, they are teens now and still come camping with us when work and college permit. It gave them confidence to do things, it gave me a great relationship with my daughters chatting well into the night all huddled in sleeping bags with hot chocolate. We all worked together to set up and strike camp, we all carried our fair share and learned how to work as a team. I wouldn't swap one second of it. I wish I could do it all again. Have fun, relax, enjoy the great times you'll all have together investing in memories.
