we have been planning to go camping this weekend for some time now, but with the weather as bad as it is i'm not sure what to do. we were only going for 2 nights an hour or so away. the weather is looking awful for the rest of today and throughout the night, but looks like it will be fair for the rest of the weekend. i was thinking we could either go this evening and set up in a downpour or go in the morning and just stay for the 1 night, the only thing is, we have a gelert horizon 8, and although its pretty quick to set up i'm not sure if it's worth it for 1 night. would you take all your kit and a large tent just for 1 night away?

I would go tonight...you never know what the weather is really going to do and you will just be cheesed off it it clears up an hour after you should have left! Take some nice warm clothes to change into if you get wet pitching and a big bottle of wine and enjoy!!.

OH & I went to a lovely little site in Portpatrick that we go to every year just a couple of weeks ago.  We were meant to be going Friday through to Sunday but OH had to work till 8pm on Friday night so decided to go 1st thing on Saturday morning just for the 1 night.  We have a Gelert 4+4 and only took the essentials with us.  We were so glad we did go as the weather was beautiful (got sunburned!!) and actually felt as though we had done something good with our wkend as opposed to sitting in front of the tv.

I would not take the big tent and all the gear just for one night, whatever the weather.

Do you have a smaller tent that you can take with just the essentials?

I agree with Bernie47, if you have a smaller tent that you could take, or one you could borrow, that would be better, although, if it were me, I'd just go tonight and risk it.

Even if it takes you an hour to put it up in the rain, as long as you can keep the inside dry and you have some dry clothes ( and the wine, as bertie34 said) you'll have a great time.
