Hi Everyone,

Two things, Firstly having found thse forums a few weeks ago and having not been camping fo about 3 years due to kids arriving I took everyone's advice and bought some better pegs as wind was expected this weekend.  I got a load of rock pegs. Just one question.  How on earth do you gt them out of the ground without destroying the plastic bit?  I broke about 5 of them - and my peg puller!!

Secondly, I have always been a camper since I was very young. Having taken a 3-4 year break a lot seems to have changed.

Every site I have been to has had a lot more really nosiy inconsiderate campers than ever before. They make a row all night and then give you a filthy look when the little 'un has a cry at 7am. You want peace and quiet in the mornings and late nights? Go to an adults only site - that is what I would do!  Why would you go to a family campsite to have a party?????

And what is this business of TV's and laptops in tents???  I can understand the surge in EHU use - much more environmentally sound than running everything on disposable gas canisters and disposable batteries I would think and very useful for keeping the little 'un warm in the mornings!!  I always thought camping was about sitting around in the evening reading a book, having a chat, glass of wine etc etc. I go to get away from eastenders and the internet not sit in a tent and watch it!!

Perhaps it is just me but has camping changed a lot in the last 4 years? or is it just a bad year due to the credit thingy?

Nice to be back to it anyway!! - And just to say this site is excellent - loads of helpful stuff on here.

 I can't help with the rock pegs but I have to agree with you about the other bits. We used to get some funny looks when we first took our kids camping. The little one had an induction on his 1st birthday.

Hi there , the way to get rock pegs out is to use a claw hammer inbetween the plastic bit and the flat top of the peg , then pull hard !!

I agree with what you say about camping changing. Lots of people now seem to think its ok to spend all night being loud and drunk  , maybe these are the people who would not normally camp but think its the in thing to do at the moment ?

Maybe its just  a sign of the times as attitudes are changing and not for the better.

Don't get me started about the telly thing !! I go away to do different things than i do at home so dont see the point in taking everything with you. Others will disagree and this thread will probably end in a row but never mind !!!

 I use a claw hammer also, It's the only way to remove the rock pegs out of the ground.  lol

The answer to the other question, I agree.  camping etiquette has passed some people by, properbly never consider it. or come across this site as yet.  Because last summer there was a big family group camped behind our tents, but well away from us, giving them space to play foot ball and baseball, not a happy chappy when the ball hit the tents.  Also kept wallking between our tents, in other words walking through our pitch albeit not marked.  Maybe they did'nt realize we were together, so put the wind break up between the tents, as a hint. that seemed to go over their heads. Are well never mind,  may learn eventually.  Luckily it's not like that all the time.

Everyone takes different things out of camping, whether going for walks, peace and quiet, or whatever.  I think every one will say, consideration is a must for everyone.

As for laptop etc I was looking to do all that but when we got there didn't want too, nevertheless each to their own in that respect if its not affecting anyone.

Thanks for the tips with the Rock Pegs - will be taking a claw hammer next time!

As for the TV, Laptop etc - it was not a critisism, more an observation -  all this electricity in tents thing seems to have really taken off since I last camped.  Everyone seems to have it now!

Congratulations

I went in to the senior generation last year and she's gorgeous. Trying to persuade her M&D to take up the noble pastime of camping.

My laptop doubles up as a DVD player, and I get a lot of enjoyment surfing the net, keeping in touch with friends, and the odd DVD in the evening etc...

I do not watch TV as there is not much worth watching nowadys.

Since I always have EHU nowadays, it makes sense to bring it with me, so that it allows me to have a choice of what I want to do in the evenings.

I do read, and go out and about walking and cycling with Borda. However, I do not have anyone to talk to as I go camping on my own nowadays, and have not participated in any group event (first one in Dec 09).

Can't comment on inconsiderate neighbours, as I have not come across any that really annoyed me, except certain fellow MINI owners during a rally last year. I felt so ashamed for some of their behaviours (like breaking up pallets to burn on a campfire at 02:00h!!!) I did not join the event this year, and am unlikely to do so again if I see certain people on the list.
