I've bought some tarpaulin to use as a footprint groundsheet. The problem is - I've no idea how big it should be! Should it be slightli smaller that the overall width/length of my tent? I have a bathtub groundsheet and the bedroom pod is completely separate. With the weathwe being so bad just now, I'd prefer to have something that goes the whole length of the tent to save the bedroom areas or groundsheet getting mucky.
When we bought our tent more years ago than I care to remember, we bought a tarp and made our own full size groundsheet, which I assume is what is referred to these days as a "footprint" groundsheet. Our bedroom area has a sown in sheet, but we used the tarp to make the full size inside the tent including under the bedroom. Helps protect the sleeping area and the double layer also helps stop punctures on our blow-up mattress.
You will need to make it slightly smaller than the tent all the way around to stop rain running down the outside from landing on the groundsheet and running inside.
The first time we did this we placed our groundsheets on the floor and cut round them, but when we replaced that one we just took it along to the campsite with us and folded under any excess, worked really well as we were able to cut out one side to go under the porch too. Aslong as you make sure the footprint or tarp is tucked well under your groundsheet, otherwise you may gather water between the two if it rains.

Aug/Sept - Leekworth
Two or three inches less all the way round should be fine.Just make sure it doesn't stick out,or when it rains you will have pools of water under your SIG
