mine has red coded poles and blue coded poles...I think the red ones are for the bedroom pods the blue for the main frame ( could be the other way around though ! ).....mine are coded with the colours ( red or blue ) in the middle of the pole set...and should be situated in the corresponding coloured sleeves.  Its easy when you know how !

The shape is definately a bugbear of the Hartford XL.  We always have problems.  I doubt you've got the pole too long.  One of the tricks is not to peg the inner down too tight while you erect it.  Once all the poles are in and securely in the ring and pin system - take out the loose pegs....get hold of it from two or three sides and give it a good shake. This is easier said than done on a windy day. The poles are a tight fit but they shouldn't come adrift once connected to the pins.  Have you got the metal ends on the poles?  You can't fit the poles over the pins without them.

Yes...two criss cross over the top then one goes over the door.  Squew whiff is exactly the description and we've always had this problem...but we seem to be able to rectify it most of the time by the shaking and careful pegging out.  Looks like a dogs dinner if you don't get it right and is definately a pet hate of DH !

Yes, that'll be your problem...don't peg it down tight until you've got the shape right...its worth it to spend a few minutes doing this and stand back and view it from all angles...otherwise you end up with the living space inside a daft shape aswell...including sagging bedroom pods...( pardon the expression ! )

As well as this...if the inner's not right then the outer won't go right either !

The other tip that I've just remembered....when pegging it out..its a two man job...so don't randomely peg out...have two people opposite to eachother - start at the door....and pull out and peg at the same time and roughly in the same place each side.
