Hi everyone...I've been lurking for a couple of weeks, this is my first post! Thanks everyone for all the hints and tips I've been filing away in my brain for future reference.
So, about the camping so far - I'm not quite a newbie to camping, me and the better half have graduated from a very basic kit with a 2 man dome tent which finally gave up the ghost in 2007 during a holiday at North Morte farm in Devon. Its possible that a cliff top location in a high wind wasn't the best choice of pitch that year .
So it was off to the Barnstaple for a new tent to continue the holiday in, we weren't giving up. We got a Eurohike Sandringham, which coped well with the stream flowing under the groundsheet in its first week due to the continued rain that year. It has been a brilliant tent for the money and up to a week ago was going to be used for our next trip to the Isle of Wight in a week's time. But we have succumbed - we're now awaiting delivery of a new Outwell Idaho L, and a footprint and a carpet, (what luxury) which I suppose puts us firmly in the glamping camp! Going by the reviews we should be cosy and warm and dry this year, no matter what the british summer throws at us. Fingers firmly crossed that it arrives in time, I can't wait for all the packages to get here, I just hope its before the 14th.
Hi Guitarkid...I like that, TAS. I suppose its all down hill now, I'm going to be addicted to camping stores, they have such a lovely smell though, with lots of gadgets and gizmos to keep his nibs happy looking at for hours.
Lol yes wait to you get to Go Outdoors. Even though u have your own tent, Im sure you will end up sitting in all there tents!!!. And end up buying a gadget or two!

We have been there today and just bought our first tent a Hi Gear Zenobia 6, a mallet, airbeds and a fleece for our little girl. I could have bought loads, I have my eye on the Hi Gear Deluxe kitchen stand for £20, a bargain I thought
Is Go Outdoors the place to go for tents then? I've ordered the Idaho from Yeomans Wigan branch, just going by the reviews on here. We haven't seen it "live" yet so perhaps we should have hopped over to Wigan first.
This is going to be fun - if it arrives on Monday, we have no space in the garden for a practice run, its going to go up for the first time on the 14th when we get to the campsite, so if anyone is in need of a bit of entertainment, bring your deckchairs *lol*. I think we will spend next week watching the outwell instruction video. His Nibs has been laughing at me getting excited all week, as according to him I tend to flap my arms like a penguin when I get all happy about going away.
Kathryn, £20 for the kitchen stand sounds bargainous, might have to have a run out there soon.
Gotta agree i spend so much time in go outdoors at wigan. I live agout 10 min drive from there. Everytime we go in my 3 year old has to go see all the tents and try them out, even lying down and telling me were she is going to sleep(she is worse than me). I bought the kitchen stand for £20 last week it is a bargain. They have a good sale on at the moment (have bought loads). The staff there are also really helpful.
I have only just bought my tent and everytime i go i want a different one. Good thing is i know i cant get the lovely big ones i see as i go camping alone with my 3 year old and would never get them up. Thats what i keep telling myself to stop me trading it in!
Go Outdoors isnt really THE place, but they have good sales and is a pretty well equipped place for most things outdoors..
until you get your new baby up youll go through all sorts of 'have I bought the right tent' etc.. etc.. and when you first pitch you will go through the 'this is a nightmare' type thoughts... but it isnt a nightmare its just your first time pitching so you need to get to know the ins and outs and quirks of the tent..
main thing to remember is you have bought a good quality kick ass tent, a home from home tent..

Fantastic Guitarkid - a "kick ass tent" sounds just what we wanted *lol* I'm sure getting the tent up will be fine, I can't wait to see it up and get all the gear in it and settle down for a great fortnight's r & r!
Hi Mrs Badcrumble !! North Morte Farm is my most favourite campsite ever !! I know what you mean about wind, and we have had torrential rain as well. If you survived that and the slopes and still want to continue, then WELL DONE, and welcome to the crazy world of UKCS. Get your credit card out and start shopping
Hi Sarah - North Morte is beautiful - we were in the lower field and the wind was coming straight from Lundy, but it was worth it for the views alone. I confess to spending part of one night in the car, as the top of the dome kept bouncing off my head while I was trying to sleep *lol*. Once we got the Sandringham we moved to a more sheltered site, Newberry Valley Farm in Combe Martin, near to some friends, sadly it rained like mad and all the water ran down the hillsides and straight under the groundsheet like a stream....but the sun came out eventually and everything dried out so it was still a brilliant holiday.
I daren't get the credit card out again just yet , His Nibs is traumatised enough already!
