I am so excited about going away on my first camping trip with my boys this sunday for a week, but so scared that i will b on my own with no back up for about 2.5 hours drive!
No pool, no club.
just me and my boys (5 &9). but have the bestest mum & dad in the world are coming down with me to make sure tent is all ok and i get unpacked without boys cause me serious headache. just the rest of week to sort out lol.
i have been away on own before but it feels so different going away in tent with no ehu|(telly) and the weather so unsettled. i just want this to b the start of many but don't want the boys to b put off by weather and no ehu(telly/ps2)
hubby not keen and is not coming so always feels a bit weird anyway, but just want boys to get back to being boys and enjoy!. I am taking them fishing and they r good enough to eat wot ever we catch (if mum can get it off the line), crabing/cricket/kite flying and i would even make a mud pie if it kept them happy lol
so why am i so scared ???
You'll be fine once you get there and are all set up and i'm sure your boys will love it, has your husband ever tried camping, does he know the fun he's missing out on with his boys? I'm sure you'll have a great time, tell us when you get back, enjoy

Life isn't a rehearsal, be all you can be, follow your dreams and live life to the full!!
I remember when we started camping in 2 little 2 man tents we had made a campfire and telling each other scary stories! ok not too scary as they were only kids, I slept with my daughter and my son slept in a tent with his dad! i insisted sleeping the wrong way up ie with my head by the door and not at the back of the tent just in case someone tried to bash my head in they would get my feet instead i was that scard! . 20 years on me and my daughter still laugh at my antics lol!!!! don't worry you will have a wonderful time. being scared is all part of the excitement i think lol!!
I'm sure you you will have a great time. I'm only sorry that I didn't do it when my too were younger. I started when they were in their early teens, and now they are all but leaving the nest to go off to uni.
A couple of things I learnt that you might find useful
camping makes you hungry - and young boys especially need snacks to keep them going
evenings in the tent can seem quite long with youngsters as bedtime goes out of the window - have some travel games to play such as pass the pig, frustration etc. Mine loved a book or story tape too.
bucket and lid for midnight wees! I couldn't leave one in the tent at night to take toilet block at night.
I'm glad mum and dad are helping with the set up. Have fun,
If you have a car and a mobile phone, and not in the middle of nowhere with hardly a soul to be seen for miles, then you'll be ok.
The first solo trip is always daunting, once you have passed that hurdle, you'll be fine.
If tent leaks, collapse, or any other issues, just pack up and go. It is not the end of the world, and certainly not a failure - not everything goes according to plan all the time, even with the best planning in advance.
Good luck, be brave, and enjoy your trip, as I am sure you and your family will.

Good luck on your trip, I hope you and the kids have a great time and the weather holds for you, obviously not your OH cup of tea, personally i think it is him who is missing out, as an earlier poster said take some games/books etc to keep yourselves entertained.
Just remember to take a football, cricket set, baseball set, badminton, etc. Also my two love me to read to them whilst camping and over the last 3 years have managed to get through the whole Harry Potter series - reading to them calms them down at night and it's something to do when it's raining, my 10 year even says it's better than watching telly!
We are off this weekend for our first camping trip for a week on the North Norfolk coast, as this is my first proper trip out under canvas I too am a little on edge. I am not sure what to expect from a large campsite. Personally I am really looking forward in going with my family and two dogs. I do have my fears regarding windy off shore breezes, rain, noisy campers and poor faclitiies. But then agian I have done my research and I will give it ago, you never know, you may like it more than you realise.
I hope you have planned a load of jobs for your O/H over the weekend lol!!!. try and make friends on the site with other families it always helps for a quick natter and moral support

Same here, we're off to Anglesey for our first family camping experience on Saturday and my excitement is being tempered by a twinge of nerves - will we get a decent pitch? Will it be busy and we'll be packed in like sardines? Will we get the tent up without embarrassment? Will we get stuck next to the Campers From Hell? Will it rain? Will the tent blow away in the night ...
I'm sure once we're onsite and getting on with it I'll be fine but until then my bum is definitely getting a bit squeaky!
I think everyone...Even seasoned campers gets excited at the thought of setting off into the wide blue yonder!!! And even worry a wee bit about all the things listed above
But once your on site...pitched....and settled in you start to relax and enjoy yourself!! I think you jac_c and your boys will enjoy the whole experiance...From that 1st meal...and the settling down for your 1st night under canvas...Right through to the last day when you have to decamp and come home...Remember..when you get back to post a report...Im willing to bet that your boys will love it...and will want to go again!!!
