We are fair weather campers it has to be said.  We were planning to go away this weekend coming somewhere near-ish at hand.  Unfortunately the met office are showing too many raindrops for my husbands liking, the only area without the dreaded raindrops is Aberdeen.  What do you think, would we be mad to camp around Aberdeen at nearly the end of August.  (I used to live in Aberdeen, and it can get cold! but have never camped anywhere near there).

I usually consider night time temps in double figures to be the boundary for fair weather camping . It depends on so many intrinsic and extrinsic factors . Kit, local environment, health condition all have their part to play .Coldest I camped was a few degrees above freezing .

Cold Temperature is usually only an issue at night!

Thick insulation beneath you, an opened sleeping bag above you, several layers worn in bed with the optional wooly hat will keep you warm!

If you are still worried, why not invest in an electric fan or halogen heater & pay for a pitch with EHU?

but it's not looking that cold.

BC weather gives Sat min as 14C (which is failry warm for a night time UK temp, Fri a bit cooler at 9C (and min temp is middle of the night).

For me, below 10 it gets a bit cold sitting around outside for too long, but probably ok in a tent, and certainly fine in bed.

I'm hoping to go camping the 2nd week of September and am aware it'll probably be cooler, I'm going to invest in a heater of some sort and some extra fleece blankets, will also plan something to do on one of the days since I reckon it'll be too cold to hang around the site all day.

Thanks for the rules of thumb.  I think I'll keep watching the forecast a bit longer before we book anything.

We camped in the Trossachs at the end of July and it was really cold at night, we sat there playing cards with fleeces and blankets, you could see your breath and although we were very cold we still enjoyed it.  I guess if you go prepared you will be fine,

Sassy
