We are going away next weekend with EHU, apart from a hook up cable. What other equipment do you take?
I am planning on taking a fan heater for the evenings, but having not camped like this before I need advice.
Chargers, light, kettle (possibly toaster this time too if DW gets her finger out and gets one this am!), DVD player and of course the electric coolbox.
Seriously thinking about a fan heater for this w/e too...
All of the above. I find I need to organise the tent in such a way that I'm not constantly having to move the hookup around. Make sure the cable is in a safe place where you can't trip over it - it isn't always possible to pitch the tent with your cable access point closest to the outside electric point.
How many sockets do you have on your lead? If you have three make sure you don't overlaod it, although it's quite hard to do with the normal camping paraphanalia - fridge, 1kw fan heater and a light for example.
Also, read the pinned thread on this forum - I think there's something on there about working out how much you can load onto the sockets at any one time.
I use EHU for cooking using a portable induction hob. We also use the electric to run a coolbox, camping toaster (low wattage) and lights and to charge up mobiles etc.
We recently bought a fan heater (Argos cheap one 1kw/2kw) and it is probably the best thing I have bought for camping. It makes the tent so cosy in the evening (especially during this lovely english summer we've been having ) and means we can still sit around in t-shirts playing cards and not think about the cold. We usually have it on high for about 10 minutes to warm up the tent then put it onto low to keep it at a nice temperature until bedtime.
Depending on the ampage of the electric we only ever tend to run 1/2 things at a time as we don't like to overload the electric. Therefore if I am using the fan heater we unplug everything else except the light.
We take a fridge (plugged in all the time), kettle, toaster, hairdryer, straighteners, rechargers for umpteen things, electric light and fan heater! Obviously don't use everything at once. Have only blown the trip switch once using fridge, hairdryer and kettle all at once. I think it's wise to only use one thing that heats something up at a time.
fridge, electric fan heater, mini oven, tv, ipod docking station, electric coolbox, boosted tv aerial or sat tv system (depending on wether I can be bothered to set it up), dustbuster, ps3, mobile chargers and laptop.
you know, just the essentials
