Ive been woken early by the sound of the wind howling around the house and it hasnt calmed down at all.

The car is all packed ready to go this morning and Im taking the tunnel for the first time to a site on the south downs.  I called them yesterday and they said it was sheltered enough but the howling sound is making me worry about broken new tent.

Please tell me Im worrying too much!

I camped at St. Ives Farm, Hartfield, Sussex on Tuesday night. I pitched my two man tent and a tarp that has two steel poles. These poles are very strong ones, however, one massive gust of wind bent one to a right-angle! I moved the tent and tarp to a recently vacated sheltered pitch soon afterwards and replaced the pole with a spare.

I live on top of the North Downs and it is still very windy today, but dry at least.

Pitch carefully and enjoy.

As its just me going, it could be ....interesting...watching me pitch a 3 berth tunnel by myself, especially as they have a tendancy to take off before property pitched.  I have the new Vango in the boot as a back up but I really rather not destroy a new Coleman.  Its a woodland site so hopefully will have a bit of shelter.

We too are off to Pevensey - Norman's Bay - quite an exposed site. Metcheck have the strongest gusts on Friday being around 20mph, so should be ok if pitch carefully. It is due to calm down as the weekend progresses - should be a lovely weekend.

Sevens, make sure you have pegged the rear corners (and guys)down well before you pull the whole tunnel up, or we'll see you paragliding over the downs with your new coleman.

Aaron666 we were are Fairfields early in the summer, my daughter really enjoyed the small farm zoo and trail they have there

I know your neck of the woods well, Shready. My first boyfriend lived at Farleigh and I went to school at Selsdon. I've had many a happy evening at the (White?) Lion by the green.

It's very windy in Sussex today. I've been in Seaford all day, and my car was rocking so much in the car park it felt like a team of rugby players were trying to move it. It was so bad at lunchtime, I had trouble walking into the wind at one point, and the sea is really rough.

If those were 20mph gusts today, then my car does 150!

Looks quite windy at present in the Pevensey area.I know from past visits the C&C Club site at Normans Bay is quite exposed and does get quite windy at times.

We have just returned from our second camping trip, near Pickering 1st -3rd sept, was any one else there then?

We pitched in a thunder and lightening storm, had no choice as it was getting late, so we got wet to start with and it didn't really stop raining, minor break on the 2nd sept for a couple of hours, and then from 7pm to 7am it just poured and poured and was very very windy, thought the tent would take off and about 2am. lots of noise of things being blown about.

But we survived, everything was damp, we didn't have ehu, our dog looked a bit pathetic( he is almost 12 though), then the farmer told us Thurs night would be as bad, so we decided to pack up whilst we could and head home. We now have a tent and our new Gelert Bourne Summer House (fab)to dry out

Very sad as the camp site was excellent and the area looked good for walking but it was just too wild, does this mean we are only really fairweather campers lol!

We will try and get away next week though, but will check the weather forecast thoroughly
