Cried my heart out after a house fire many years ago, not for many of our prized possesions, but for our collection of camping photo albums from the 60s and 70s. Tank tops, bell bottoms, fab-u-lous canvas tents all gone and lost forever but still have my memories though

How sad, ibiza... Still, tis better to have camped and lost the photos, than never to have camped at all. Hope you now have a more recent store of photographs to enjoy.

Yep, a lot of camping is about nostalgia and sentimentality.
I have so many pictures and videos from our times away. At the moment my son thinks nothing of it, but it will be a lovely legacy to give him to show his children one day.
Long live nostalgia I say!

..... and the odd night wild camping in my Argos 1 man tent...
what i find interesting about camping from 70/80s is the tent sizes, the tents were a lot bigger than the tents made today, yes there are large tunnel tents made but in most of them the space is in the middle, with the frame tents the you could walk around end to end.
the picture shows my medium size frame tent, tents were available at twice this size, you can see one in the background.
the interesting bit is the amount of posts ive read about sites and their restricted pitching sizes. are campsites getting greedy.(i always had loads of space for pitching as in the pictures nowdays guylines seem to cross from the next tent. .
Tents tended to come in two types then - the scout and guide, belt and braces ridge variety, and the caravan-awning, housey, bells and whistles style! I notice in the last picture, gran. is camping with the family. The housey style of tent was probably more acceptable to the old-fashioned grans. of those days than the hi-tech. look of modern tunnel tents. My 70s frame tent had a glorious interior design of large, brown flowers, absolutely twee and very much of the age. I can almost hear my gran. (God rest her!) looking at my 2008 Aztec and saying "You're not getting me sleeping in that thing! Where's the floral curtains?!"
